It’s that time again… K9 Kamp is here! This year marks my third time as a featured blogger for K9 Kamp, but this year I have the chance to change things up a little bit. I’ll get to that in a moment…
Our super Kamp counselors from Kol’s Notes and Peggy’s Pet Place have made a few changes too. Β Rather than give us specific challenges each week, they’re giving us a little more freedom. (I hope I won’t be paralyzed by indecision… too many choices!) This year, the goal is to get active with your dog for an extra thirty minutes, three or four times per week. Β (Sound fun? You should join us at Kamp. It runs through June 21, so you have plenty of time to get moving.) Kamp’s pretty darn fun. Not only that, there are prizes!
In the past, Bella has been my workout buddy, but she’s a pup of limited interests. I had to modify most of the challenges to hold her attention. These modifications basically involved finding a way to incorporate a rope toy and a game of tug.
This year, however, there’s a new dog on the block. Bella has assured me that she thinks Tavish should be front and center this time around – she’s promised me she’ll supervise from the sidelines and participate when she damn well pleases. (Her words, not mine.)
In addition, Bella’s pretty slim these days (due to some dietary changes), while Tavish has been looking a bit like a sausage. (An adorable sausage, but a sausage nonetheless. Thank goodness he can’t understand me when I call him that, or he’d start to develop a complex.) Sad to say, I’m starting to feel kind of like a sausage too. It’s time to shed some of those winter pounds and get myself back on track.
K9 Kamp is the perfect opportunity for Tavish and me to get moving and (I hope) become less sausage-like. It’s not a good look for either of us. Tavish is already kind of a walking rockstar – I’ve never had a dog that gets so excited about his daily walks. He becomes quite bouncy.
I think I’m going to focus on adding a few more walks to our routine as well as some obedience training games. We’ll see how it goes!
Interested in kamping with us? What do you do with your dog to stay fit? Tell me about it in the comments, visit our counselors, and link up to this week’s FitDog Friday Blog Hop!
What a cutie he is – guess he wouldn’t like being called that anymore than a ‘sausage’ I bet. Oh well, he can’t read. Extra walks are great and will certainly help both of you. All the Hoppers have great tips for humans and dogs – we’re all learning so much. Thanks for joining!

Well, at least he doesn’t start doing a high pitched “yipping” when he’s excited to go for a walk!! Riley drives me nuts…as soon as we get out the front door (and before we even leave the house), she starts yipping like an insane cracker dog…the neighbors probably think I’m torturing her or something…so embarrassing!
Bella is like Chloe–Chloe would rather watch Riley run around than actually join in! Tavish looks like he’ll be a good work out buddy!!

He tends to go with a Chewbacca noise instead…
Daisy gets super excited when we get ready to go out for walks but then she has to stop and sniff at everything so one of our goal for K9 Kamp this year is to work on upping our intensity and duration (ie NOT stopping to smell everything!). Looking forward to seeing you at Kamp!

he is definitely a cutie, how can you NOT want to take him for a walk? We’ve just been hit with our first heat wave so it’s going to be challenging trying to add some time in. π

I was just thinking lately that Nico has become quite the fatty. Each day it gets a little harder to tie his harness around him! I may try and play along with you to help with his squishiness!

We swim, walk, play fetch both indoors and out, and for Jimmy, agility training and trials…I have always credited my dogs with keeping me slim well into my middle age!

Tavish does get rather bouncy! So does Penny and it’s pretty darn cute! Good luck with your new challenge π

I swear our dogs are like the perfect pairs. That’s what Kolchak is like when you ask him to go for a walk. He flies off the handle. It’s precious. We can’t wait to see what you and Tavish do. Although, I might miss the old “This week’s challenge was…” but Bella refused to co-operate “so we played tug” posts. LOL, they were great!

Haha… maybe I’ll have to throw in one of those Bella posts for nostalgia’s sake… π
They are both so cute! Bella’s ears! OMD.
Love the title. I need to lose my winter sausage-esqueness as well. Good thing it’s K9 Kamp time!
Looking forward to kamping with you!

Looking forward to Kamping with a sausage π Just kidding, lots of dogs seem to have that problem in the spring. We are more active in the winter when it is cold out so normally we aren’t too sausage like but our challenge will be to do even more now when it is warmer out. See you around Kamp!
