It’s the first No Frown Friday of 2012… let’s jump right in!
Your punny pet name: Meowrio Lopez. (On a related Saved by the Bell note, can we all agree that Lark Voorhies would be the perfect name for a pet bird? No punnification needed.)
Apparently even those who profess to be anti-pun fall victim to them every now and then. I was honored to learn that one of my punny posts made Rescued Insanity’s list of eleven must-reads for 2011.
You know I love any excuse to break out my best nature show narrator voice (see, e.g., the CaveDog). So I had to share this post from Something Wagging about the migratory patterns of the Fuzzy-Bellied Honey. Don’t be ashamed to read it out loud, Discovery Channel style – I did.
Finally, I saw this video and just knew I had to share it. My love of turtles and tortoises is well-documented. The baby tortoise in today’s video reminds me of my own childhood turtles, George and George. They loved tomatoes too.
Since we’re strolling down Memory Lane yet again, enjoy this collection of ’90s heartthrobs. (I was a Jonathan Brandis girl myself… I wept salty SeaQuest tears when I heard he passed away a few years ago. On a related note, now I want to write a parody called FleaQuest DSV.)
Speaking of adorable adoptables, did you read yesterday’s interview with my favorite shelter pet photographer?
At this time of year, thoughts naturally turn to New Year’s resolutions. I don’t generally make any, but part of me wants to resolve to enjoy life as much as this cat does.
Maybe you’re just resolving to work out more? I think this cat would make a good trainer.
This year, I want to do some more decorating around the house. Perhaps I can take some inspiration from these adorable pets in designer rooms.
Self-promotion alert! I updated the baking blog this week. Check out these candy cane cupcakes. Bella and I were also interviewed at Coffee with a Canine – swing by and say hi!
Hey, girl… this video contains the cutest sleigh full of reindeer ever (although these guys are giving them a run for their money). It also contains Ryan Gosling.
Two words: puppy Christmas. (A reminder, however – a pet shouldn’t be an impulse buy or a last-minute gift idea.)
‘Tis the season for wish lists. I haven’t really created a wish list this year (other than a few items I added on Pinterest). I’ve been a bit of a proCATinator lately, in fact. (Apparently I need to take a cue from Sally and demand my fair share.)
However, today’s post is inspired by the almighty wish list. For each link I share today, I’m going to tell you what it makes me want. (Not all of my themes are gems, folks, but I’m giving it the old college try.)
Before we get started, your punny pet name for the week would be perfect for a feathered friend: Wing Crosby.
Up next, enjoy this bonus unrelated punnage: Wu Tang Flan. This makes me want to cook lots of punny food and share it on my other, oft-neglected blog. It also makes me want to sit around thinking up other punny foods. I think I’ll settle in with a Donna Martini and a PBJT (Peanut Butter & Jelly Taylor) sandwich.
Um… anyway… this story makes me want to move to New Zealand.
Apparently I’m all about the big life changes today, because this video makes me want a baby… psych! It actually just makes me want more puppies, as most things do.
Up next, this video makes me want to adopt a cat to help me practice yoga. Bella doesn’t do yoga with me – she just thinks I’m hanging out on the floor so I can pet her more easily.
I played the piano as a child and want to get one for my house. Although, Bella hasn’t shown any musical talent, this clip makes me want that piano even more.
This post from Something Wagging made me want to make up a silly song about puppy balls. (I can check this one off the list.) If also makes me want to post some moredog song parodies, this time with Christmas carols. So… check back soon if that sort of thing interests you.
In other news, this tutorial shared by Doggie Stylish makes me wish I was a better knitter. However, I’m still working on my first project – a scarf. Someday…
These cookie cutters make me want to go on a baking spree. I’m due for a good baking spree. (See #2 above.)
Finally, this week’s video makes me want to pen a Christmas story involving a giant cat. It’d be sort of a Pride and Prejudice and Zombies kind of thing…
It’s definitely the party season – time to stock up on gifts for your hosts/hostesses. If one of them happens to be a dog lover, here are some great ideas. Another option – just get a gift for the dog instead.
Once you have the gifts, you’ll need to wrap them. On that note, I have a feeling most cats would not be as tolerant as this one.
Looking for some new Christmas music to sing while you decorate? Might I suggest The 12 Dogs of Christmas? (That post may inspire me to dogify some Christmas carols soon. Stay tuned.)
Does your dog inspire your holiday decorations? Maybe I should take a cue from Bo and make a Bella out of marshmallows and peanut butter cups.
Speaking of my little blog star, want to see more photos from Bella’s holiday shoot? Check out our album on Facebook. (While you’re there, you might as well like the page too, right?)
Considering taking photos of your pet this holiday season but not sure where to start? Lucky for you, I’ve rounded up some tips from our pals at Go Pet Friendly and Alfie’sBlog.
Finally, here’s a holiday treat – therapy dogs performing The Nutcracker. Personally, I think the Mouse King steals the show.
(Visit here for more information about this performance.)
I was joking about creating a candy Bella (I blame last night’s Parks & Recreationfor putting that notion into my brain), but now I’m wondering – what candy would you use to make a replica of your dog?
First off, happy National Mutt Day! I’d like to dedicate today’s post to all of the awesome mutts out there, including my own. (Considering adopting your own mutt? Check out a really cool way to announce it and help other shelter pets, courtesy of Bocci’s Beefs.)
Now, back to your regularly scheduled linkage:
Your punny pet name: Johann Sebastian Bark. (Also, this week’s award for awesome punnage goes to… Goatzart.)
It seems that one local law school has taken a cue from the extremely awesome TV showCommunity – George Mason University has enlisted some cuddly puppies from a local rescue group to help law students relax during exams. (Perhaps they got the idea from Yale, but in my mind the administrators are just big Community fans.)
I think we can all agree that dogs are cute. (If not, how did you end up reading this blog? Go watch this video and then come back.) Today, let’s also appreciatesome cute from off the beaten path.
You know, I had to give Bella a bath last week in preparation for her holiday photo shoot. Why couldn’t she be into it like that guy?
I’ve been battling a sinus infection this week – however, new research shows that the doctor should prescribe a glass of wine and a bubble bath. Now that’s medicine I can get behind. (See how it all relates? My mind works in odd ways.)
Don’t forget – if you have any questions that you’d like to ask a professional pet photographer who also photographs shelter pets, send them my way. I hope to have some answers for you in the near future.
Perhaps you, like me, were a busy bee preparing for Thanksgiving. Although it’s fun, Turkey Day can be a lot of work. With that in mind, it’s important to take some time to relax now that it’s over. Maybe I’ll book a massage…
Your regularly scheduled No Frown Friday will return next week… this week I’m being lazy. I blame the tryptophan. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Today’s links are even more random than usual, if that’s possible. Full disclosure: I considered doing a Twilight theme. The punny names were especially easy – though I would not be surprised if someone already has a pet named Robert Cattinson. (Yup. Someone beat me to it.)
Anyway, although I am going to see Breaking Dawn tonight (I didn’t love the book, but I can’t resist a movie night), I decided to spare you from my other puns (such as Edward Seagullen). You’re welcome for the random linkage instead…
So, I remember when Passions had that weird talking doll. (Anyone else? I didn’t watch that particular soap opera, but I would occasionally pass it when channel surfing and get creeped out.) It appears that one soap opera has decided to top that storyline – it’s a talking dog trying to convince a talking baby to hand over some hidden paternity test results. (Don’t worry, I’ll give you a few minutes to read that completely bonkers sentence a few more times.)
In other “things no one else probably remembers” news, 2gether (MTV’s parody boy band from the ’90s) is considering a reunion. U plus me equals us, baby. (Calculus.)
Speaking of TV… I’m not normally one to share ads, but I giggle whenever I see this Microsoft ad. After all, I was the type of kid who would have happily made a
PowerPoint presentation about why I needed a dog. (I’m also reminded of
Marshall’s chart and graph obsession on How I Met Your Mother. I can totally relate.)
That’s all I’ve got for you today. Also, don’t forget to vote for The Old Dog House in the Pepsi Refresh Project once a day until November 30… it’s a wonderfully simple way to help senior dogs.
Another topic that makes frequent appearances? Space. So, without further ado, I give you this week’s video: Corgis… in… space!
(If you can’t get enough space, go watch Nyan Cat too. Someone should come up with Nyan Gosling Cat. Get on it, Internet.)
That concludes your regularly scheduled linkage. Before I go, you should know that a pretty cool event is going on in blogland this weekend – it’s a Blogpocalypse! A group of wonderful bloggers will be participating in a blogathon to raise support for various causes. I hope you’ll check them out. (If you do, you might even see a guest post from me over at My Brown Newfies!)
