Friday I’m in love (with BlogPaws)

Today, I’m at BlogPaws! However, I couldn’t just leave you hanging on No Frown Friday. It just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t send you into the weekend as usual… so let’s get to it!

As always, we begin with a pun… Tina Spay. (I’m obviously in 30 Rock withdrawal.)
Speaking of wordplay… if I ever need a Cat Scan, I hope I get this type. Way better than the traditional kind.
Speaking of Cat Scans… if all goes according to plan, I’ve met some of my favorite bloggers by now. (If you’re there… say hi!) Maybe I will ask those who are vets if this cartoon actually depicts a teaching animal hospital. I have a feeling that it does not.
Next, I give you cats with mustaches. No wordplay or brilliant segue needed.
Apparently the MTV Video Music Awards are this weekend. (Kind of funny, considering that I can’t remember the last time I saw a video on MTV.) Anyway, I would be much more likely to watch the VMAs if they really did have puppies on hand to impersonate the various presenters and winners.
Finally, what happens if your toddler decides the dog needs a new ‘do? Hilarity, that’s what.

My favorite part of today’s video might be the guy in the background
saying “puppy puppy puppy puppy.” Seriously. It reminds me of that
addictive Puppy Woof Woof video for some reason. Good times.

Lots of good stuff for you today….

Your punny pet names for the week… wait, I need to put on my punglasses first. That’s better. In honor of last night’s So You Think You Can Dance finale I give you… Mary Purrphy. (Bonus SYTYCD-related name in need of no alterations: Cat Deeley.)
Multiple cats in multiple hats? Dr. Seuss would be proud. (Since we’re kicking things off with some feline links today… here’s a bonus quiz about purring.)
I have a feeling Dr. Seuss would have also liked these adorable doughnuts decorated to look like cats. Okay, I don’t really have that feeling. I just like them. That’s enough, right?
Speaking of cat-shaped food (not to be confused with actual cat food), check out this cool jewelry shared on under the blanket. Love the whimsy.
Speaking of finding lost pets (I sort of was, I promise… visit blanket ID for a great and stylish way to keep your pets safe), viva la microchip! This dog was reunited with his family a year after fatal car crash.

As you know, I like to close things out with a video on Fridays. In all honesty, I almost didn’t today because I just watched this video from No Dog About It and there’s no way I can compete… I can’t even tell you how much I loved it. I cheered. No joke. So… you should go watch that. Really.

In any event, I’ll still give you a video, since one can never have enough cute. I think that this will be Bella’s reaction when she finds out she needs to have her nails clipped and get a bath this weekend:

I’m all over the place today… I feel like Jessie Spano on a caffeine pill bender. (I know, Jessie. I’ll never get into Stanford at this rate either.) Anyway…

No one expects the Corgi-fication

Okay, so I know I’ve focused on Corgis before (they were even the subject of my first breed spotlight and inspired me to dream up a detective show starring a Corgi/Jack Russell named Cojack). However, the Internet has made it very clear that it’s time for another Corgi roundup. You wouldn’t believe how much Corgi stuff keeps popping up on my screen. It’s obvious that the universe wants me to give in to the Corgi-fication. Who am I to argue?

First up, your punny pet name: Ernest Corgnine.
Corgis are pretty darn cute on their own. (Need proof? Visit the Chronicles of Cardigan.) That being said, Corgi mixes are no slouches either. Check out this gallery of Corgi mixed breeds. Still want more? Here you go.
If I was matriculating at Hogwarts, I’d ask the Sorting Hat to place me in Gryffincorg.
Make way for ducklings… especially when they’re following a Corgi around.
Based on the ears alone, I think I’ve found Bella’s Corgi doppleganger.
I’ve never seen a dog who liked the vacuum as much as this guy.
This Corgi won’t come in without an invitation… is he a vampire or just really polite?

Happy Friday! I hope that you have not yet melted from the heat… if you have, then I ‘m not sure how you’re reading this, but I congratulate you on your skills. Anyway, here we go…

Your punny pet names for the week: PetMe White and Jimmy Falhound. (Not my best work, but they are relevant to the links below. Here’s a bonus, however: meet Ferris Mewler, feline friend of hilarious individual The Blogess. That cat’s Eric Northman impression is off the charts… guess we know who would play Ferris Mewler in a made-for-TV movie. Alexander Skarsgard all the way.)
Wondering what’s new over at my cupcake blog? (Probably not, but I hope you’ll indulge my occasional desire to self-promote.) If you’re hungry, perhaps these vanilla M&M cupcakes with chocolate buttercream will satisfy you.
Sorry about that cupcake tangent… will you forgive me if I give you 20 dogs slow dancing to Boyz II Men?
No? Well… how about if I told you I can predict exactly how excited your dog will be to see you based upon how long you’ve been gone?
Still not satisfied? Man, tough crowd. If Betty White hanging out with a beluga whale (yup, they’re buds) doesn’t do it, I’m out of ideas.

So, we’re cool now, right? Because once I linked to a video of a gosling, and had to clarify that I did not mean Ryan Goslng – it was a sad day for all, and I wished I’d been able to share a video of Gosling with a gosling instead. I don’t have that today, but I have something even better. Ryan Gosling and his dog (who happens to be rocking a mohawk) just hanging out on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

It’s the little things. You know, like a dog with a mohawk. It is important to stay cool, after all. Anyone else tried out this cut?

Harry Potter & the Deathly Howls

Tomorrow, I will be going to see the last Harry Potter movie. I’m not going to lie… I almost wanted to put off seeing the movie so that it’s not really over. That being said, I’m going to see it anyway. I can’t wait!

It’s not the first time we’ve given some Friday love to Mr. Potter and crew. I’m sure it won’t be the last. I already gave you a few punny names based on the series (some of my better work, I think). Although I doubt I can top my previous Dogwarts creations (Headmaster Albus Puppledore and his star students Hairy Plotthound, Grrr-mione Granger, and Ron Fleasley), I’ll give it a shot. I offer Godric Gryffindog, Helga Hufflepup, Rowena Ravenpaw, and Salazar Snifferin. It makes me want to adopt a quartet of pups and buy them collars in their House colors. (Also… if I was into reptiles, I’d totally have to name one Severus Snake.)
As you can tell, I find this whole experience a tad bittersweet. Luckily, I’m not the only one – Jimmy Fallon knows where I’m coming from.
I love a good corn maze. Note to my local corn maze creators: I think I just found the perfect model for you to use this year.
This collection of Harry Potter viral videos is like a Butterbeer for the eyes and ears. (That sounds painful, but I promise I meant it as a good thing. I’m not sure my simile is working.) Um, also… you should probably do yourself a favor and watch this song about Deathly Hallows set to Beyonce’s “Halo.”
Speaking of Butterbeer, did you know that you can make your own? It’s some tasty stuff.
I’m dying to make some Butterbeer cupcakes and/or Golden Snitch cake pops… perhaps these will be making an appearance on I Still Want More Cupcakes in the future. (Thanks to Hey Love Designs for the tip!)
You know I love Garfield. As a result, I am obsessed with this Gryffindor Garfield cake. I think I need to be friends with the person who requested this combo.
Did you know that Harry Potter stars Imelda Staunton, David Tennant and Miranda Richardson have a history of helping dogs? Awesome. (Thanks to DogTipper!)
Maybe that’s why these dogs (and cats) love Harry Potter so much. (These pups too.)

So, apparently lots of people have taught their dogs tricks based on the spells in the Harry Potter universe. I have to be honest, this idea had never occurred to me. Just goes to show, I’m no visionary. I think this one was my favorite… it’s got some style:

How I met your tortoise… and some Muppets

Another Friday is upon us… so you know what that means. It’s time to send you into the weekend with a smile!

As always, we begin with a punny pet name. (It’s tradition, after all.) This week: Jason Beagle and Marshowl Erickson (see #5 below).
I’ve decided to follow that up with a little shameless self-promotion. Check out the newest creation over at I Still Want Cupcakes. I’m considering a whole summer series inspired by ice cream… suggestions are welcome!
Ice cream got me thinking about ice cream cones, which then led to me thinking about the cone of shame. So, um, what happens if your dog forgets he’s wearing a cone? Hilarity. (Cone of shame jokes are never going to get old, are they? Seriously, that stuff is timeless.)
Stick with me here… it’s random train of thought day. (As are most days for me.) This video of a dog (and cat) on a scooter caused me to exclaim “Dogs… on… wheels!” when I saw it. (This video produced a similar reaction.) Which of course got me thinking about Dogs… in… Space, followed by Pigs in Space, which ended with me looking up the premiere date for the new Muppet movie. (November 23… I’m so there. Who’s with me? If you haven’t seen the trailers, I recommend you treat yourself by doing so now. The Muppets plus Jason Segal… I could not ask for more.)
Talking about Jason Segal reminded me how much I loved his performance of “Dracula’s Lament” in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Of course someone made it into a video with the Count from Sesame Street… it’s things like this that give me faith in humanity. Okay, not really…. but I do have a particular fondness for the Count. In college my roommate and I would often just start counting Count-style (that was an odd phrase to type) for no reason whatsoever and break into fits of laughter. Those were the days.
Whew… sorry for all the randomness. This is almost as bad as that day I shared my ramblings about Waldo the cat.

Of books and beaches…

A long weekend… the stuff that dreams are made of. I don’t have to go back to the office until Wednesday. In addition to Monday’s holiday, I took Tuesday off as well. As you can imagine, I’m pretty excited! But first, I need to send you into the weekend with your usual dose of randomness…

Today’s punny pet name is LeVar Purrton. Why? Read on…
You know of my love for Reading Rainbow. So I’m sure you can understand how excited I was to learn that LeVar Burton is organizing a Reading Rainbow flash mob to raise literary awareness. Awesome.
In honor of butterflies in the sky and taking a look because it’s in a book, enjoy these photos of 50 animals reading.
There’s nothing better than grabbing a book and relaxing outside (beach, pool, yard… anywhere will do). If your pool also contained these guinea pigs or these baby elephants having fun, it’d be a pretty perfect day. Just make sure you have a lifeguard – perhaps of the dog variety?

Of course I can’t send you into the weekend without a video. Since we’re letting guinea pigs and elephants have some fun, seems like it’s only fair to let dogs in on the action…

Before I go, I wanted to tell you that I’m trying out a new thing… Bella graciously allows me to stop adoring her for a few moments now and then to do some baking. Rather than bombard you with recipes and photos here, I’ve created another space for that sort of thing. Every now and then, you can find me over at I Still Want More Cupcakes, telling you how much I love butter and sugar in addition to puppies. I hope you’ll stop by sometime. Puppies are still the main event and posting won’t be slowed here, but you’ll get the occasional bonus of some baked goods to ogle. Win-win, right?

I already shared this link on Twitter… but in case you missed it, I need to share it with you too. I read it three times yesterday and laughed like a crazy woman each and every time: “And that’s why you should learn to pick your battles” by The Blogess. I will be quoting this blog post years from now. My friends will beg me to stop, but I won’t be able to. Also, she has a cat named Ferris Mewler… could it get any better?
A cat impersonating a dog? Yup, that happened. A robot impersonating a dog? That did too.
Now for dessert, enjoy these cakes from the ’80s… er, I mean, ’80s themed cakes. I’m not asking you to stare at desserts that are two decades old, I promise.
