Canine Christmas carols, part deux
That’s right, I’m referencing a Charlie Sheen movie from 1993. What of it?
Anyway, it’s time for another caroldy installment. After all, caroldies are the reason for the season (or so I’ve heard). First, I’d like to share my new favorite caroldy, composed by Kristine from Rescued Insanity. She gave Wham’s Last Christmas the caroldy treatment, and it is amazing and awesome. Go read it.
(Wham!’s? How the heck do I make a band name ending in an exclamation point possessive? Oh, grammar gods, I need your help.)
Up next, a few caroldies shared in the comments last week. Continue reading

Christmas carols, doggie style
You know, I almost used this post title in the past. However, I chickened out. This year, I’m chickening in instead. (Is that the opposite of chickening out?)
In any event, I thought I’d kick things off with the first caroldy of the year. Pretend I’m singing it to you. (If you need to jog your memory, here’s the tune.)
Be glad I’m not actually singing to you, as it would probably just hurt your ears. I really need a singer and director on my staff to take these to the next level. However, first I need a staff. It’s a real chicken and egg problem (or something). Anyway…
Joy to the World (Dog Edition)
Joy to the world! My owner’s home.
Let her fill up my bowl.
Let’s take a walk, around the block,
When lots of things I’ll be sniffing,
When lots of things I’ll be sniffing,
When lots and lots of things I’ll be sniffing.
Joy to the world! A brand new bone.
Let me chew upon it please.
While you watch TV, I’ll chew loudly,
You won’t hear a single word,
You won’t hear a single word,
You won’t hear, hear, a single word.
So, now it’s your turn. What songs deserve the caroldy treatment this year? The Greatest Hits CD so far includes:
- Hark! The Puppies are Playing
- Here We Come a Sniff-Sniffing
- Deck the Bowls
- I Saw Three Cats
- I Saw Puppies Kissing Santa Claws
- Bella the Snowdog
- It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas (Dog Edition)
- Barkin’ Around the Christmas Tree
- Sleigh Ride Revisited
- Jingle Goats
Share your requests in the comments, add some more verses to the song above, or hit me with some caroldies of your own!
The Lazy Games: Catching Zs edition
I’ve got movies on the brain. I finally saw Catching Fire on Tuesday (and loved it, bee tee dubs). Anyone else? (Although, I’m totally calling it a love angle from now on instead of a triangle.)
Anyway… now I want to just hibernate from the cold with an endless stream of my favorite films – I could just stay there, alternately sleeping and watching movies, until March. That’s not too much to ask, right?
Oh, it is? Guess I’ll just dedicate today’s post to some of my favorite movies instead.
- First up, your punny pet names: Finsey Lohan and Rachel McCattums. (Bonus: Belated Thanksgiving pun-stravaganza!)
- I’ll probably never tire of Hunger Games parodies. Luckily, Cookie Monster is here to help. Enjoy The Hungry Games. (I wonder how Sloth Katniss would do.)
- I’ll be singing “Spell Block Tango” for days. (Speaking of Mufasa…)
- Consider this post my official request that more animals submit videos reenacting that spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp.
- Copper… such a hound dog. (Oh, and this link has me melting. Holy cute.)
- I’m utterly charmed by this rendition of “Under the Sea.”
- On a darker note, I wonder if Morgan Freeman would be willing to narrate The Pawshank Redemption. It’d be epic.
I would totally watch this Mean Elves movie. (Oh, Bo… it’ll totally happen one day.)
Anyway, that’s all for this week. Here’s what we’ve been up to on the blog lately, in case you missed it:
- The hills are alive with the sound of puns (and dinosaurs)
- May the tuna be ever in your flavor
- Pardon the interruption…
- Do you have any weird pet keepsakes?
- 11 posts to read to your dog…

Happy Friday, pals!

Top 5 reasons to join the Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange
The holidays are approaching. Much like Santa – and Type A personalities everywhere – you will probably make a list, check it twice, make a second list, check it thrice, make a sublist or two related to those lists, enlist your elves to make sure you didn’t forget to add something to the list(s), like taking photos of the reindeer for your holiday cards…
Oh, just me? (Some people get visions of sugarplums in their heads. I just get visions of to-do lists. I’m festive like that. ‘Tis the season to be crazy, after all.)
Well, um, even if you’re not quite as neurotic as Santa, you might find yourself busy with holiday-related tasks. The stress might start to slither in like the Grinch trying to snatch a roast beast. It’ll start to weigh you down.
Fortunately for you, there’s a solution to your convolution. Some salvation for your situation. Welcome to the Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange. It’s like a big virtual hug from a friend. You’ll give (and get) the gift of encouragement and blog love this holiday season. You just have to sign up. Continue reading
Unveiling a new Military Working Dog Memorial
Recently, a memorial for Military Working Dogs was unveiled in Texas. It’s a nice tribute to these heroic dogs and their handlers:
Today, the I Still Want More Puppies team (which I guess technically is just me, Bella, and Tavish) wanted to take a moment to thank all of the veterans out there, both human and canine. Bella and Tavish are sending virtual puppy kisses your way.
Adopt your very own unicorn…
…or, you know, a dog named Unicorn. But you can call her Corny. (I can relate. I’m pretty corny myself.)
In any event, the following video is rated U for Unicorn.
I didn’t quite get the weird dude at the end, but what can you do? It’s not like I’ve gone out and made my own parody adoption video, after all. He’s still coming out ahead of Sarah McLachlan. Humor always wins over soul-crushing depression.
Speaking of unicorns, I wish that Corny had rocked a unicorn costume somewhere in there. Thank goodness that my other favorite Bella has anticipated my needs. She knew what I needed before I even knew myself.
Also, speaking of being corny… thanks to those of you who totally appreciate my special brand of rambling nonsense. To you I say…
Hope you had a great Halloween… I’m off to celebrate by watching a few of my favorite specials! (The dogs are not in costume, but they’ll more than make up for that at our Christmas card shoot.) Unicorn wishes and rainbow dreams, my friends…
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Snarly Brown!
It’s time for some Friday linkage, Howloween style…
- First up, your punny pet names: Sheddy Krueger, Snarly Brown, Goosey VanPelt, and Peppermint Catty.
- Apparently, all movies are horror movies at heart. Who knew?
- So, what are you dressing up as this year? If you’re in need of an idea, might I recommend one of these options? (Whatever you do, just promise me you’re not going as a sexy antelope or sexy Marie Curie or anything like that. That’s right, I’m giving you the side eye, sexy giraffe and sexy fox.)
- Alternatively, you can’t go wrong with a red panda costume.
- Holy crap, you guys. Someone please start a blog where they do this when their dog takes naps.
- Speaking of dogs in costumes, I did enjoy these funny (and punny) ones.
- Don’t worry, cat lovers, I didn’t forget about you. Your felines can be sweet or salty this year. Your choice.
- Do you like pranks? *Insert disapproving Amy Poehler face here.*
- Anyway, Halloween is an excuse for culinary creativity. You could make these gummy spiders. Or you can just whip up a batch of Halloween sangria.
So wrong, yet so right:
In case you missed any of them, here are last week’s posts:
- PFL: Panda Football League
- Pumpkins + Puppies = Perfect
- LOLCat speek hurts mah brain
- #K9Kamp: The Movie
- 7 for All Dogkind
That’s all for now, pals. Any Howloween plans for the weekend?
