Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Bunny hop edition!

Bella loves bunnies… I think. She did have a bunny cousin, and she tried to lick him during their first meeting. However, she tried to lick a goose once too, so who knows what’s going on in that puppy brain of hers.

Anyway, all that is a prelude to some very special adoptables. Today, I’m participating in the Second Annual Rabbit Adoptathon, founded by the All Things Dog Blog. This year, the hop (wordplay!) is co-hosted by afFURmation and Bunny’s Blog. (We participated last year too – I told you that Bella loves her bunnies.)

First up, allow me to introduce you to Oreo II. (If you’re wondering – yes, I did choose him because of the Roman numerals. I’m a nerd that way.) Oreo II is an adoptable American rabbit from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC). This sweet little guy is dog friendly (and cute as a button).

Up next, meet Bella. (Good name, right?) This little lady is a Dutch/Cinnamon mix available from Friends of Rabbits in Centreville, Virginia. She’s sweet, calm and friendly. On top of that, she’s downright gorgeous!

If you have room in your home (and your heart) for one of these beautiful bunnies, contact HSFC or Friends of Rabbits. If you know someone else who might be interested, please share this post. Let’s find some homes for Oreo II and Bella!

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Belinda & Mac

Every week, I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).  Ready to meet this week’s featured pups, Belinda & Mac? Here we go…

First up, meet Belinda!  This Beagle/Plott Hound mix weighs approximately 35 pounds and is looking for a new friend.  Here’s her bio from HSFC:

“This is one beautiful girl you won’t want to miss meeting. Belinda is incredibly sweet and loving. She was picked up by Animal Control as a stray with injuries. It was suspected she had been hit by a car. As soon as they realized how wonderful she was, they called us right away to help save her from euthanasia. And they were so right! She is not only adorable but too sweet to describe. She has gone through a very successful surgery to repair a dislocated hip, but healing beautifully. You’ll just have to come and meet her for yourself to see exactly what we’re talking about. She’s 3 yrs. old, likes other dogs and all ages of people. She is so ready to find a new family who will give her the love she deserves.

Attributes: Too Sweet For Words!”

Do you have a home for this lovely lady?  If so, visit the HSFC website for more information.  To view the other pets available for adoption at HSFC, click here.

Up next, meet Mac, a handsome Beagle/Labrador Retriever mix.   Here’s his bio from A Forever Home:

Hi, I’m Mac short for Paul McCartney. I am a gentle, slender small version of a lab but I am actually a 3-year-old lab/beagle mix. I got all the lab coloring and none of the beagle. I am very gentle and sensitive. I quietly love being with my foster family after being with my old family. For some time, their schedule was sooooo bad that I was in a crate with my brother Lenny as they said for about 20 hours a day! I am one of those dogs that curl up in a little ball and just love to lean against my foster. I also like being out of my crate unless it is bedtime or they go out, which isn’t often that they both go out. I love people and enjoy pets. I can get scared a little but them all I want is a pet to know it’s ok. My foster thinks it is very funny that after two days with her, all she has to do is whistle and I come right to her! I can do my commands of sit, down and shake. I am very gentle and have a very light touch. I am looking for a new home where I can be out of my crate most of the day. Please come and meet me at the adoptions. I really love the pets from big people and the kids!

If you think you have the perfect home for Mac, visit A Forever Home for more information or email Info@aforeverhome.org.  To view the other pets available for adoption at A Forever Home, click here.

first – not all pets will be at the weekly event.  However, there are a
lot of awesome pets in need of homes, so if you’re in the neighborhood,

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Handsome & Coaster

Every week, I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).  Ready to meet this week’s featured pups, Handsome & Coaster? Here we go…

First up, , meet Handsome!  This Shepherd/Hound mix weighs approximately 35 pounds and is looking for a new friend.  Here’s his bio from HSFC:

“Handsome is a cutie pie. He is a gorgeous boy and not quite a year old. He has some sad stories to share and may take a while to tell you all about his past. He was a stray for many months and is very shy. He needs some special TLC with someone who will be patient with him while he learns to trust again. He is gentle and great with other dogs, but he is slower to show his wonderful spirit and fun side with humans. If you really want to help a special dog, come and meet Handsome. He has already shown great improvement, however, being with a family who will love him will make his progress go so much faster.

Attributes: Needs a special friend!”

Have you been waiting for a friend like Handsome?  If so, visit the HSFC website for more information.  To view the other pets available for adoption at HSFC, click here.

Up next, meet Coaster!  This lovely Cocker Spaniel is approximately 10 years old.   Here’s her bio from A Forever Home:

Hi my name is Coaster. I am a healthy Cocker looking for a new home. I have a sad story to tell: you see my human mom died unexpectedly and my sister and I got dumped at our Vet’s office. I am very confused and don’t know what is going on. I know I need a new home. I am very sweet and would love to find someone to love me like my mom loved me. In typical cocker fashion, I love to play with toys and I love to snuggle next to you (or on you). Some nice lady is letting me stay with her until I find my own forever home. If you want she will let you come over and meet me.

If you think you have the perfect home for Coaster, visit A Forever Home for more information or email Info@aforeverhome.org.  To view the other pets available for adoption at A Forever Home, click here.

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Goose & Mia

Every week, I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).  Ready to meet this week’s featured pups, Goose & Mia? Here we go…

First up, , meet Goose!  This Boxer mix weighs approximately 40 pounds and is ridiculously adorable.  Here’s his bio from HSFC:

Update: It looks like Goose has been adopted! He’s no longer listed on the website.

Have you been waiting for a pup like Goose?  If so, visit the HSFC website for more information.  To view the other pets available for adoption at HSFC, click here.

Up next, meet Mia!  This lovely lady is approximately 4 years old and weights 65 pounds.   Here’s her bio from A Forever Home:

Mia is a pure-bred English bulldog. She is very friendly. Very low-keyed and lovable. She enjoys walks and playing. She is good with other dogs as well. She is looking for a new home because her family is moving to a new home with limited space. Mia loves to play with a ball and was named after famous soccer star, Mia Hamm, because she’s so good with moving the ball around with her nose and front feet! Mia is a typical bulldog in the fact that she is low maintenance and enjoys relaxing, but she is athletic too and loves a quick play in the yard or doggy park. She loves to fetch tennis balls and enjoys walks. But not too far! She is a bulldog after all. When she was only 3 lbs, she loved carrying around and chewing on plastic water bottles and she still does to this day. She makes you feel protected in your home, and she is so sweet and loyal. We expect there to be a lot on interest in her. If you would like to meet her, please fax an application and e-mail.

If you think you have the perfect home for Mia, visit A Forever Home for more information or email Info@aforeverhome.org.  To view the other pets available for adoption at A Forever Home, click here.

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Angel & Chopper

Every week, I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).  Ready to meet this week’s featured pups, Angel & Chopper? Here we go…

First up, , meet Angel!  This lovely lady would love to be your new best friend.  Here’s her bio from HSFC:

“Her name is perfect for her. Angel really is an Angel! She’s so sweet and loving and the mom of the year. She came in from a kill shelter with 9 puppies and gave them every second of her attention. She knows it’s time to let them go, and she’s excited about having a real home of her own. She’s a small Shepherd mixed with Husky and black and tan in color. She’s very gentle and loves to have attention. She’s only 2 yrs old and has no puppy habits other than loving everyone. Come and make Angel’s Christmas wish come true, by giving her a forever home.

Attributes: An Angel is waiting for you!”

Have you been waiting for a pup like Angel?  If so, visit the HSFC website for more information.  To view the other pets available for adoption at HSFC, click here.

Up next, meet Chopper!  This handsome guy is approximately 5 1/2 years old.   Here’s his bio from A Forever Home:

This is Chopper. He is a 6 year old neutered, Rottweiler (born 06/27/06) with the most beautiful face in the world! He is a very sweet, loving boy that, unfortunately, doesn’t love being around small children. My husband and I have had him since he was a puppy and he has been growling at our 2 year old daughter. Rather than keeping him away from her, we would prefer to find him a loving home where he would get all of the attention he deserves. He plays wonderfully with other dogs, has never showed any aggression towards other dogs and actually he tends to be the submissive dog when playing in groups. He loves to take walks, run and swim!!! He is a fluffy teddy bear that just wants to snuggle up to everyone!!!

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Chew Chew & Smitty

Every week, I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  (I usually post this feature on Sunday, but I’m a tad late this time around.)  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).  Ready to meet this week’s featured pups, Chew Chew and Smitty? Here we go…

First up, meet Chew Chew!  This wonderful Westie is approximately 4 years old.   Here’s his bio from A Forever Home:

Chew Chew is an adorable Westie who was rescued by one of our AFH volunteers before he was to be dropped off by his family at an animal shelter. He lived with a Maltese and older children. True to his breed, he’s an active boy. Chew Chew has come to AFH in the hopes of finding a family that will give him the attention, exercise and training that his breed requires in order to be healthy and happy. He’s a very smart little boy and is already learning a lot in his new foster home. He now knows to sit/down for a treat. This handsome little dog is best suited for those who love the spirit and playful personality that typifies the terrier mystique. Please send your application in soon, as we foresee a happy ending for this lucky fellow in the very near future!

“Come and meet your new best friend. Smitty is patiently waiting for someone he can share his life with. He’s a beautiful guy with tan and white fur. He lived his life as a stray for almost a year and is now ready to belong to someone special. He’s good with other dogs, is under a year old, good with cats and housebroken. Today can be your special day and Smitty’s best day ever, if you send in your dog adoption application right away.

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Desi & Ringo

Every week, I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  (I usually post this feature on Sunday, but a combination of holiday parties and a stomach bug resulted in a delay this time around.)  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).  Ready to meet this week’s featured pups, Desi and Ringo? Here we go…

First up, meet Desi!  This cute Chihuahua is approximately 7 years old.   Here’s his bio from A Forever Home:

Hello! My name is Desi and I am a purebred Chihuahua and
weigh only 7 pounds. I was rescued from a place called a puppy mill. I lived in
a cage 24/7. I received little to no socialization so I need a lot of patience to understand that people are okay. I just learned what toys are and I LOVE to
play with my foster brothers and sisters. My foster mom and her dogs are
teaching me what it is like to be a family dog.

In time I am sure I will
overcome my fear of people and the outdoors, but I am going to need a family to
show me lots of patience. I will need a family to continue my socialization, to
teach me that I do not need to be so fearful with strangers. I am going to need
someone to keep me on a schedule so that I know what to expect and help me get
house trained and crate trained. I am looking for a family with older or no
children, as the little kids are very noisy and intimidating for a nervous guy
like me. I’m hoping my family will have another small dog as they could help
show me the ropes.

Can you be that family, to help me learn what it is like to
be free and live without always being in fear? It may take me time, but I
promise once I learn to trust you I will be able to return your love ten fold.

If you think you have the perfect home for Desi, visit A Forever Home for more information or email Info@aforeverhome.org.  To view the other pets available for adoption at A Forever Home, click here.

Up next, meet Ringo!  This handsome pup is a Husky mix looking for a home.  Here’s his bio from HSFC:

“Ringo is a star for sure! This beautiful boy is only a year
old and already a favorite of our farm.

He’s very sweet, loves to play, is
wonderful with other dogs and has personality plus. His longhair coat is tan
and white and he knows he’s handsome.

Come and meet Ringo and make him the star
of your home.

Attributes: SUPERSTAR!

First up, meet Princess!  This Shepherd/Rottweiler mix is approximately 5 years old.   Here’s her bio from A Forever Home:

“Princess is a sweet girl. She is housebroken, polite, good with
children, other dogs and cats, and has an endearing disposition. When
you give her any attention she looks at you with her big brown eyes and
melts into a puddle at your feet. Princess needs a home without small
children.”

“This adorable little girl came to us with just days to
go until she gave birth. Now that her 3 pups are ready for their forever
homes, it’s time for Buttercup to find hers.

She is a total lovebug,
who is great with people of all ages. She’s a happy girl, with little
short legs and big floppy ears. Her tan and black coat is short and she
is only 1 and 1/2 yrs. old. She’s great with other dogs but loves people
first. Come and give Buttercup a chance to show you what a great girl

Adorable Adoptables in Northern Virginia: Violet & Allie

Every Sunday I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).

November is Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, so I’ve got some lovely senior pets to share with you today.  You know I think that senior pets rock, so let’s find them some homes!

First up, meet Violet!  This cute cat is approximately 8 years old.  Here’s her bio from HSFC:

“Violet has the mischievous and frisky kitten in her that never grows up!
The female counterpart to Dennis the Menace, sometimes! So lovable
but looking for trouble. I think she is very smart and gets bored
easily. SHE thinks it fun to startle causing a cat stampede! It is
hysterical when she plays with her own feet! She expects fresh water
sips from the faucet. Very nosy about everything and every cat,
whatever is going on, she also knows what I am thinking when I am going
to get her in a carrier. She can be very sweet and wants to come to you
for affection but not too much handling, when she is in the mood. Not a
pushover and can lose her temper if provoked. So, not good for small
children.”

Is this frisky feline the one for you?  If so, visit the HSFC website for more information.  To view the other pets available for adoption at HSFC, click here.

Up next, meet Allie!  This Hound mix is approximately 8 years old.   Here’s her bio from A Forever Home:

“Allie is a beautiful, regal, very loving lady. Her face is very
expressive, she looks you right in the eyes and holds your gaze. I
think she was crated way too much because she came to me not house
broken and really did not want to go up and down the stairs. It looked
like it hurt her to do so and she even limped a bit. She’s been with me
for about four months and now, she is doing great. She is working on
being house broken and goes up and down stairs. She’ll even beat you up
there! She even plays with her 3 month old foster sister every now and
then. Her crate is still her ‘safe’ place and she will need one in her
new home. Allie is spayed and up to date on her shots. She is an
older girl who loves to go for walks and does very well on a leash. She
gets stressed out on car rides. She doesn’t get sick but does drool
and sheds a lot, showing her stress. She loves to lean against you when
she wants to be pet and will put her head in your lap if you are
sitting in a chair. She will lay on the bed with you for a while but
prefers to sleep on the floor or in her crate. If you are looking for a
laid back, loving, engaging older dog to love, Allie is your girl!
Please let her teach you what unconditional love is.”

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Dulci & Elizabeth

Every Sunday I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  In particular, I’ll be sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).

November is Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, so I’ve got some lovely senior pets to share with you today.  You know I think that senior pets rock, so let’s find them some homes!

First up, meet Dulci!  This cute cat is approximately 9 years old.  Here’s her bio from HSFC:

“Very playful. Would make a great friend for another cat that needs a ‘perpetual kitten’ playmate. Likes to sleep on the foot of the bed or
your feet at night. Other than ‘hard play,’ her favorite past time is
eating!”

Think this perpetual kitten is for you?  If so, visit the HSFC website for more information.  To view the other pets available for adoption at HSFC, click here.

Up next, meet Elizabeth!  This Chow Chow mix is approximately 11 years old and weighs 36 pounds.   Here’s her bio from A Forever Home:

“Hi, my name is Elizabeth and I am looking for a new home. AFH rescued
me from an awful life where I had to live outside all of the time. No
one really cared about me when I lived outside and I developed heartworm
and had all sorts of infections and parasites. The doctor said I have
the worst arthritis that he has ever seen. All of my infections are now
gone. My heartworm has been treated and I have been eating good food so
I look and feel much better. I would love to live in a home with
carpet so I can walk around and follow my mom or dad or go into the
other rooms to check things out.

Oh, I am supposed to tell you that I am
completely house trained, so no worries there. It would also be nice if
there were only a couple of stairs to go to the back yard. Right now, I
have to be carried down a flight of stairs. And, sometimes when my
foster mom is busy in the yard, I start to walk up the stairs by myself.
Since my balance is not so good, she runs over to help so I do not fall
down and really hurt myself.

My foster mom says I am tenacious with a
high spirit who does not like to give up. She also says I try to frolic
and it makes her laugh. She really loves me, but thinks there is
someone who can offer me more that what she can provide and really wants
me to find the perfect forever home. I am so much better off now, but
my foster mom says I deserve the best since things were so bad for so
many years. And, who am I to argue? Be sure to contact AFH if you
would like to meet me. Thanks, Elizabeth

P.S. Be sure to watch my
video!”
