Moonwalking down memory lane…

I’m feeling nostalgic today (and every day, but let’s set that problem aside for now). Maybe this weekend I’ll bust out my jelly shoes and play with my Brenda Walsh paper doll.

Oh, wait. I own neither of those things. Tragic.

  1. First up, your punny pet name: Henona Ryder (or Winona Flyder).
  2. On a pun-related note, these reworked movie posters are killing me. Seriously, how did I never come up with Abraham Lynxin?
  3. Continuing on the poster theme, these minimalist posters of children’s classics are pretty neat.
  4. Seriously though, I’m beginning to question my pun-slinging skills. I also wish that I had come up with Ernest Lemingway.
  5. Given that I mentioned both Winona and good ol’ Brenda Walsh above, do you love the movie Heathers? If not, might I ask… what is your damage?
  6. Speaking of damage, this article about Jem and the Holograms may have broken my brain.
  7. Now I’m going to be singing this all day.

You know, this cat can moonwalk better than I ever could:

Thanks for joining me on this (moon)walk down memory lane!

(Don’t forget – the #SuperDogPics Twitter party is this Sunday. Have you RSVP’d?)

No Frown Friday: “What is a weekend?” edition

It’s time for another Friday link roundup, although I’m sure the Dowager Countess would wonder what makes that so darn special.

  1. Today’s punny pet names: Waggy Smith and Kelly Barkson. (Have I used that last one before? I don’t think so, but that is surprising. I’m a huge Kelly fan.)
  2. Speaking of puns, I can’t decide which is my favorite of these. (Though I think it might be #9.)
  3. Dog or lion? You be the judge.
  4. I’ll be watching the Golden Globes and spending my Sunday evening with my imaginary best friends Tina and Amy. (Not that they are imaginary… just that my being best friends with them is a figment of my overactive imagination.) What about you?
  5. If MTV ever makes True Life: I’m Addicted to Awards Shows, they should totally give me a call. Anyway… enjoy these honest titles for Oscar-nominated movies.
  6. You know, I always wondered where kittens came from. Now I know.
  7. Say hi to your weather forecast for me.
  8. On an unrelated note (as if the others were actually related), I want all of these cakes. All of them. Bring them to me!
  9. I’m beginning to think that I’ll never get tired of hilarious auto-corrects. Perhaps it’s a new addiction to add to my awards show one.
  10. Houndton Tabby? Yes, please.

Speaking of Downton Abbey, I feel like the following parody would make a great cat food commercial.

I also have a fun bit of news to share with you today. Much like these dogs, I’m already thinking about the Super Bowl (and our annual Super Bowl party). In related news, did you know that the Puppy Bowl includes hedgehogs this year? Hedgehogs. Amazing.

Anyway… in years past, I’ve participated in the Super Dog Sunday blog hop. This year, I’ve been invited to be a member of the Cheer Team to promote this year’s Super Dog Sunday photo contest, which will benefit the Petfinder Foundtion. I’ll be posting more info soon, but you can go here to get a little preview if you just can’t wait. Stay tuned…

The best things happen when a dog & penguin are dancing…

‘Twas the last No Frown Friday before Christmas and all through the blogs, my readers were wondering if I’d still post about dogs.

The answer is yes. Let’s do this.

  1. First up, your punny pet names: Bark Griswold and George Tailey.
  2. I guess we made it through that whole apocalypse thing okay, huh? At least it gave me this photo. And this pun. Worth it.
  3. As the world did not end, your weird holiday traditions can continue unabated.
  4. So, what should I watch to get into the holiday spirit this weekend? (Animal Planet totally stole that “pup culture” thing from this blog, right? I kid, I kid… although perhaps they should have hired me as a consultant. I could have provided some high quality puns. For example, they went with Fluffy Phelps, but I would have argued for Michael Whelps. Nailed it.)
  5. Moving on… I’m digging some of these TV-themed Christmas cards.
  6. If you are still not sure what to buy me for Christmas, my Lionel Richie wishlist just grew by one cheesy item.
  7. Do you wrap presents for your furry family members?
  8. Okay, these may not be appropriate for younger audiences, but the 25 Funniest AutoCorrects of 2012 are absolutely hilarious. I was laughing so hard I was crying. Consider it my present to you.

If you’re worried, and you can’t sleep…

Just count your puppies instead of sheep.

Recognize that movie? I had the chance to go see the stage version last night with a good friend (hence the fact that Thursday’s post is going up on Friday). It definitely helped get me in the holiday mood – snow even fell on us at the end. (Not just confetti, but wet snow. It was a nice touch.)

Third row, baby!

Third row, baby!

I know we’ve talked about favorite Christmas movies before. However, that was two years ago, so it seemed like time to revisit the topic. My question to you – what’s your favorite? I’ll start off the discussion. My required Christmas viewing includes White Christmas (obviously), Elf, and many more…

Battle of the Christmas Carols: Which is the best?

I have a very important question for you today.

Ebeneezer Scrooge was introduced to the world by Charles Dickens. His novella, A Christmas Carol, was published in 1843. Since then, there have been countless adaptations and stories inspired by this iconic work. (There was even a Halloween twist on the story in a great episode of Roseanne.) Whether you’re a fan of Bill Murray or the Flintstones, there’s a version for you.

So, tell me.. which adaptation is your favorite? As for me, there are two that top my list:

  • Mickey’s Christmas Carol – I’ve always been a big fan of this Disney version. Honestly, it’s probably my favorite – there’s something about this one that gets me every time. I especially enjoy Goofy’s appearance as Marley’s ghost.
  • The Muppet Christmas Carol – This one is an extremely close second. Statler and Waldorf as Marley? Genius. (Apparently, I really like that role.) Also, Gonzo makes an awesome Dickens. And it’s full of puns.

Now it’s your turn. Which version do you have to watch during the holiday season? Did your favorite TV show do an episode inspired by it? Tell me your favorites in the comments  – perhaps I’ll have to add some new versions to my holiday viewing list!

Smiling’s my favorite!

As I recently mentioned, I’m well behind on my monthly roundups. However, let’s just consider this belated October installment an early Christmas gift. (By that logic, I’m actually ahead of the game.)

Anyway, I believe that Buddy the Elf would totally support me sharing these posts guaranteed to make you smile. Enjoy. If you need me, I’ll be enjoying selections from the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup. Continue reading

Twilight: Barking Dawn?

Well, I’ve already offered you the punny names of Robert Cattison and Edward Seagullen, but I’ve never actually done a Twilight-themed link roundup. The last movie just came out, so I guess there’s no time like the present:

  1. First up, your punny pet names: Kristen Chewart and Taylor Pawtner.
  2. Anyone dressing up to go see the movie? If so, here’s an option you probably should not consider.
  3. Do your dogs ever play vampire-style? If so, they’d better watch out, or the Dogturi might come get them!
  4. I love a celeb with a cute dog.
  5. I’m not even sure what to do with this one. (While I’m at it… fake spoiler alert!)
  6. Thinking about vampires always makes me want to go reread Bunnicula. I can’t help it. (Speaking of, I think I just uncovered the secret behind my obsession with that series. It apparently continues, and it includes books in which Bunnicula meets Edgar Allen Crow and a trip to the Howliday Inn. That author just gets me.)
  7. Oooh… sparkly!
  8. In addition to sparkly vampires, Twilight also involves wolves. Speaking of wolves, here’s a great question I can’t believe I never thought to ask.
  9. Continuing down that trail, have you ever wondered what it would be like to live among the wolves?

Finally, I could totally get behind this movie:

So. Much. Yes.

So, are you going to see the movie? I’ll be taking it in with a few girlfriends in two weeks, once the opening night madness has calmed down a bit.

PuGyver: He can fix anything!

It’s time for some Friday linkage… but first, I have a special treat to share with you. I’m honored to have a guest post on Grouchy Puppy today. It’s called “5 Things You Shouldn’t Say to a Senior Dog Owner” – head over there and check it out!

Now, to the links:

  1. This week’s punny pet name: Digmund Freud (or Sighound Freud).
  2. You know I love Henri the cat – and now he’s back with a message for this political season. (Includes the phrase “castration without representation” – how could you resist?)
  3. I am unable to resist a good English major joke. And a good catch phrase.
  4. Did you catch the series on Freud and Fido over at Freud’s Butcher? Some very interesting stuff.
  5. Is your dog is a paradox too?
  6. These paintings of Darth Vader and other villains cuddling bunnies are awesome.
  7. A Nutella food truck? I want to go to there. Like right now.
  8. Cookie Monster and Grover parody some recent movies and TV shows. My inner child rejoices. Does yours?
  9. I just can’t stop… it’s TV theme songs galore! They’re all stuck in my head now, but it’s worth it.

Continuing on the TV theme song theme (yup, I said it), I’m sure you’ll understand why I couldn’t resist sharing today’s video:

Punny!

(Bonus TV theme song – last week, I shared the Game of Thrones theme sung by a cat. In the interest of equal time, here’s a canine version.)
