Hello, is it parody you’re looking for?

My Lionel Richie obsession is well-documented.  It should come as no surprise that when the video below landed in my inbox (courtesy of Pamela from Something Wagging), I was very excited.

Well, first I laughed so hard that I missed half the video, paused it, finished laughing, started it again from the beginning, and then was very excited.

(Hello from ant1mat3rie on Vimeo)

Maybe I really do need to join Lionel Richie Fans Anonymous.  It’s an addiction. (Pamela, that may make you my Lionel Richie dealer or just an enabler… either way, thanks for sending this my way!)

And now, for the talent portion of our competition…

It’s Friday… let’s get to it!

  1. Your punny pet name for this week: Andy Warhowl.
  2. Meet the world’s smallest working dog – score one for the little guys!
  3. Enjoy these lessons in love from ’90s song lyrics.  Anyone have any lessons in pups learned from song lyrics to share?
  4. A dog in a top hat? Seems perfect for awards season.
  5. I was in Pottery Barn the other day and saw these adorable pillows.  Perhaps the new trend in home decor is “put a dog on it”?  (Someone alert Portlandia – say goodbye to “put a bird on it.”  Dogs are the new birds.)
  6. If so, I want to buy all of these prints. (I have a pup art addiction.)
  7. Dog ears come in so many shapes and sizes, but they’re all so darn cute.
  8. I love a good sleepy dog video… the stretch at the beginning of this one really pushes it over the top.
  9. Ah, that age old debate: cats or dogs?  Where do you land on this one?
Whether you’re Team Cat or Team Dog (also available: Team Both), you have to admit that this pup’s entry for the talent portion of the competition is pretty adorable:
Of course, he’s got nothing on those dogs barking the Star Wars theme in the teaser for VW’s Super Bowl ad.  Have you watched it yet? The dog dressed like an Ewok in the front row is just icing on the cake.

I wonder if these dogs would star in my upcoming film, Star Wags: A New Rope Toy.  Still casting for the roles of Obi Wag Kenobi, Arf Vader, Slobber the Hutt, Luke Skybarker, Arftoo-D2, Boba Fetch, and Lando Abyssinian.

Have a great weekend and may the pups be with you!

Meatballs: the way to a dog’s heart?

Today’s video features George Clooney.  Why, you might ask?  First, he’s nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in The Descendants.  (Confession: I still need to see this one. I’m so behind!)  Second, because he rescued a dog (which earns instant awesome points in my book).  Finally, because it’s hard not to giggle when he talks about his unconventional technique for making sure that his rescue dog chose him

(via PetSugar)

I secretly hope that George Clooney is like the Swedish Chef, happily making meatballs in his kitchen to keep Einstein happy.

Who else will be watching the Globes tomorrow night?  I’ll be tweeting away, so feel free to join me if you’re also a pop culture/movie nerd.  I can’t wait!

Billy Joel, baby sloths & more…

Happy Friday! As usual, you’re Corgially Invited to take a moment to relax, smile, and wag your way into the weekend…

  1. First up, this week’s punny pet name: Ricky Grrr-vais.
  2. This weekend, I’ll be watching the Golden Globes – I hope that this dog walks the red carpet.  (Either way, he’ll be my choice for Best Actor.)
  3. Speaking of movies, I want all of these cakes. All of them. (Not to eat… just to gaze at lovingly.)
  4. I love this reference to Modern Family when talking about pet adoption (yay)!  Pop and pup culture combined… just awesome..
  5. Man, I never encounter any cool street art when I’m out walking.
  6. I couldn’t stop laughing while reading this post about Pinterest from Kol’s Notes.  (It really is an addiction.)
  7. Moving on… I’m awash in baby zoo animal links today. To start, I give you a baby monkey orphanage.
  8. Two words: baby koala.
  9. Not enough for you?  Fine… three words: baby polar bear.
  10. These lion cubs are taking a cue from Billy Joel and moving out. (Speaking of lions – it’s an animal odd couple alert, this time with a dog and a lion.)
Meanwhile, these baby sloths are taking the world’s most adorable bath (or close to it, anyway):
(via Best Week Ever)

Fluffy baby animals dining on flowers and snoozing away?  My work here is done. If that doesn’t send you into the weekend with a smile, nothing will.

It’s almost New Year’s Barkin’ Eve…

It’s the last No Frown Friday of 2011… let’s jump right in, shall we?

  1. Your final punny pet names of 2011 are a nod to a rockin’ New Year’s Eve… Dick Bark and Ryan Fleacreast.
  2. I want this Gizmo cake. A lot.
  3. Since we’re strolling down Memory Lane yet again, enjoy this collection of ’90s heartthrobs. (I was a Jonathan Brandis girl myself… I wept salty SeaQuest tears when I heard he passed away a few years ago.  On a related note, now I want to write a parody called FleaQuest DSV.)
  4. You know I’m all about all-dog productions, including The Wizard of Oz. Thus, I want to get the pawtograph of these two munchkins.
  5. I bet that most pet lovers can relate to this graph.
  6. It’s no Ham Skillet, but I enjoyed this story about a dog named L.L. Bean.
  7. Speaking of adorable adoptables, did you read yesterday’s interview with my favorite shelter pet photographer?
  8. At this time of year, thoughts naturally turn to New Year’s resolutions. I don’t generally make any, but part of me wants to resolve to enjoy life as much as this cat does.
  9. Maybe you’re just resolving to work out more?  I think this cat would make a good trainer.
  10. This year, I want to do some more decorating around the house. Perhaps I can take some inspiration from these adorable pets in designer rooms.
  11. Ever wonder if dogs make New Year’s resolutions?  Cleo from Grouchy Puppy makes a pretty convincing case against them.
Whatever challenges you may face in the new year, I have four words of advice…
Be like this puppy.

(via Life With Dogs)

Slay those challenges like a puppy slays a stuffed dragon.  You can do it.

I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favorite.

It’s time for another holiday edition of No Frown Friday.  I’ve got an overload of awesome linkage for you today… consider it my Festivus gift to you.

  1. Your punny pet name: Yukong Cornelius.
  2. Self-promotion alert!  I updated the baking blog this week.  Check out these candy cane cupcakes. Bella and I were also interviewed at Coffee with a Canine – swing by and say hi!
  3. Hey, girl… this video contains the cutest sleigh full of reindeer ever (although these guys are giving them a run for their money).  It also contains Ryan Gosling.
  4. Two words: puppy Christmas.  (A reminder, however – a pet shouldn’t be an impulse buy or a last-minute gift idea.)
  5. The title of this post is “Light the Meownorah” – that’s just awesome. (While I’m at it, here’s some more Ryan Gosling.)
  6. Speaking of brilliant names… Ham Skillet may be my new favorite dog name.
  7. An easy way to help shelter dogs this Christmas – toss a virtual Angry Bird at your friends.
  8. Still have gifts to wrap?  Maybe your dog can help.  (Be sure to wrap the gifts… not the cat.)
  9. If not, perhaps they can help you with the caroling instead.  (Feel free to go traditional or mix it up a bit.)
  10. Finally, just for fun… here are a few of my favorite pop culture things, including holiday TV, Christmas movies, and the best Christmas special ever.
Maybe next year I should videotape Bella’s Christmas card shoot…
That’s all I have for you today… although I do encourage you to answer the phone all weekend by saying, “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?

Ice Capades: Penguin Edition

Someone totally needs to remake The Cutting Edge with an all-penguin cast, right?  (Perhaps I should add penguin movies to my imaginary dog parody production company’s portfolio.  On an unrelated note, apparently I’ve got ice skating on the brain this week.)

Bonus link: tiny penguins in tiny sweaters!

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Princess & Buttercup

Every Sunday I’ll be featuring adoptable pets from local rescue groups.  This week, I’m sharing adorable adoptables from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC) and A Forever Home Rescue Foundation (A Forever Home).  Ready to meet Princess and Buttercup?  As you wish…

First up, meet Princess!  This Shepherd/Rottweiler mix is approximately 5 years old.   Here’s her bio from A Forever Home:

“Princess is a sweet girl. She is housebroken, polite, good with
children, other dogs and cats, and has an endearing disposition. When
you give her any attention she looks at you with her big brown eyes and
melts into a puddle at your feet. Princess needs a home without small
children.”

If you think you have the perfect home for Princess, visit A Forever Home for more information or email Info@aforeverhome.org.  To view the other pets available for adoption at A Forever Home, click here.

A Forever Home also has a weekly adoption event at the PetCo in Chantilly.  For the address and to find out more info, click here
(If you have your eye on a specific pet, please email for information
first – not all pets will be at the weekly event.  However, there are a
lot of awesome pets in need of homes, so if you’re in the neighborhood,
stop by and meet some of them!)

Up next, meet Buttercup!  This Puggle is approximately 20 lbs. of cuteness.  Here’s her bio from HSFC:

“This adorable little girl came to us with just days to
go until she gave birth. Now that her 3 pups are ready for their forever
homes, it’s time for Buttercup to find hers.

She is a total lovebug,
who is great with people of all ages. She’s a happy girl, with little
short legs and big floppy ears. Her tan and black coat is short and she
is only 1 and 1/2 yrs. old. She’s great with other dogs but loves people
first. Come and give Buttercup a chance to show you what a great girl
she is and how complete she would make your home.

Attributes: Super Sweetie!”

Is this sweetheart the one for you?  If so, visit the HSFC website for more information.  To view the other pets available for adoption at HSFC, click here.

Do you have room in your home (and your heart) for one of these lovely ladies?  Then contact HSFC or A Forever Home.  If you know someone else who might be in the market for an awesome companion, please share this post.  Let’s find some homes for Princess and Buttercup!

I like big mutts and I cannot lie…

First off, happy National Mutt Day!  I’d like to dedicate today’s post to all of the awesome mutts out there, including my own.  (Considering adopting your own mutt? Check out a really cool way to announce it and help other shelter pets, courtesy of Bocci’s Beefs.)

Now, back to your regularly scheduled linkage:

  1. Your punny pet name: Johann Sebastian Bark. (Also, this week’s award for awesome punnage goes to… Goatzart.)
  2. It seems that one local law school has taken a cue from the extremely awesome TV show Community – George Mason University has enlisted some cuddly puppies from a local rescue group to help law students relax during exams.  (Perhaps they got the idea from Yale, but in my mind the administrators are just big Community fans.)
  3. Speaking of TV, I really enjoy that the worried dog from that insurance commercial is starring in a happier commercial.
  4. So, has anyone seen the new Muppets movie yet? I really want to see it this weekend. After all, I can’t wait to see the next stage in Ms. Piggy’s style evolution.
  5. This next video has the perfect soundtrack… and it made me giggle, alot (typo intentional).
  6. I think we can all agree that dogs are cute. (If not, how did you end up reading this blog? Go watch this video and then come back.)  Today, let’s also appreciate some cute from off the beaten path.
  7. Um… on a related note, hedgehog bathtime is awesome.

I think this week’s video really ties it all together…

(via Paw Nation)

You know, I had to give Bella a bath last week in preparation for her holiday photo shoot.  Why couldn’t she be into it like that guy?

I’ve been battling a sinus infection this week – however, new research shows that the doctor should prescribe a glass of wine and a bubble bath.  Now that’s medicine I can get behind.  (See how it all relates? My mind works in odd ways.)

Don’t forget – if you have any questions that you’d like to ask a professional pet photographer who also photographs shelter pets, send them my way.  I hope to have some answers for you in the near future.

Have a great weekend!

Please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers this stuff…

Today’s links are even more random than usual, if that’s possible. Full disclosure: I considered doing a Twilight theme.  The punny names were especially easy – though I would not be surprised if someone already has a pet named Robert Cattinson.  (Yup. Someone beat me to it.)

Anyway, although I am going to see Breaking Dawn tonight (I didn’t love the book, but I can’t resist a movie night), I decided to spare you from my other puns (such as Edward Seagullen).  You’re welcome for the random linkage instead…

  1. First up, your punny pet name: Meowrice Sendak.
  2. Time for a little shameless self-promotion – I posted a new recipe on the cupcake blog!
  3. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, crack open a dog beer and let’s get to the fun stuff.
  4. The other day I wrote a guest post for My Brown Newfies inspired by Where the Wild Things Are. The Internet has returned the favor – it’s where the wild pugs are!
  5. So, I remember when Passions had that weird talking doll. (Anyone else? I didn’t watch that particular soap opera, but I would occasionally pass it when channel surfing and get creeped out.)  It appears that one soap opera has decided to top that storyline – it’s a talking dog trying to convince a talking baby to hand over some hidden paternity test results.  (Don’t worry, I’ll give you a few minutes to read that completely bonkers sentence a few more times.)
  6. In other “things no one else probably remembers” news, 2gether (MTV’s parody boy band from the ’90s) is considering a reunion. U plus me equals us, baby.  (Calculus.)
  7. Speaking of TV… I’m not normally one to share ads, but I giggle whenever I see this Microsoft ad.  After all, I was the type of kid who would have happily made a
PowerPoint presentation about why I needed a dog.  (I’m also reminded of
Marshall’s chart and graph obsession on How I Met Your Mother.  I can totally relate.)
  8. Bonus graph: things I associate with Sarah McLachlan. (Thank goodness for the series of non-depressing pet adoption videos from Will My Dog Hate Me, right?)

Continuing with the advertising theme… this FedEx ad featuring dominoes, a goose wearing a bow tie, and an adorable puppy is pure awesome:

(via Best Week Ever)

I mean, it’s not catvertising, but it’ll do…

That’s all I’ve got for you today.  Also, don’t forget to vote for The Old Dog House in the Pepsi Refresh Project once a day until November 30… it’s a wonderfully simple way to help senior dogs.

Have a great weekend!
