If only she had Corgis carrying her train…

Well, the world obviously has a case of wedding fever this week.  Who am I to resist?  After all, I did celebrate my own anniversary yesterday.  I did, however, resist getting up at the crack of dawn to watch the royal wedding and will catch up via DVR instead.  (DVR – best invention ever?)  However, I bet I could have been convinced to get up if I was invited to a celebration like the snazzy one over at Bark’n About.  Anyway…

  1. Your punny pet names: Cat Middleton was perfect for the theme, but it seemed too easy (though I really hope someone has a cat with that name).  So, I also give you… Camilla Barker Bowles.
  2. Have you been to a wedding where the couple’s pet(s) played a role?  As previously discussed, Bella does not travel well.  Thus, we let her snooze at home during the festivities.  It would have been fun to have her there though.  I’ll just have to look at these best dogs and pups of honor instead.  Prefer to let your pets be the star of the show?  Check out this canine wedding photo over at Doggie Stylish or learn about a recent cat wedding in London via Life with Cats.
  3. Want more?  Okay, okay… here are 45 photos of doggie ring bearers.
  4. Larry the Downing Street Cat was all decked out for the royal wedding.  Help him celebrate by checking out this Royal Wedding CATs-travaganza Adoption event.  (It’s part of the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend happening today through Sunday!)
  5. Are you all about the Union Jacks?  The lovely under the blanket has rounded up some fantastic items with a British theme.
  6. Royal wedding not your style?  Perhaps you’ll enjoy these awesomely geeky weddings instead.

Finally, did you see this fantastic Corgi ad?  (It was to convince people to upgrade to HD coverage of the royal wedding – irrelevant now, but still adorable.)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Kiss the world

It’s Earth Day, so today’s video has a special message for you.  But first…

  1. I cannot take credit for today’s punny pet name.  It is genius:  Piggie Smalls.  Also genius and not of my creation: Ol’ Birdy Bastard.  However, I will add a few more names to the list: Notorious P.I.G. and Dr. Bray (for a donkey, of course).
  2. You must watch this audition for Britain’s Got Talent.  I love this woman. I love her dogs.  I love her dog sweater. Love. Her.
  3. Sometimes, you just need to watch cute animals.  Pick your poision: the San Diego Zoo’s Pandacam, the Edinburgh Zoo Penguin Cam, or the Shiba Inu Puppy Cam (it’s back!).
  4. If you prefer your cute in photos rather than videos, I give you this slideshow of pets snuggling with stuffed animals (includes bonus Gremlins reference – be still, my beating heart).

As you may or may not know, we celebrated Earth Day last year by turning the blog over to Captain Pug (obviously our hero and obviously going to take pollution down to zero – also, in case you were wondering, he is cuteness magnified, and he is fighting on the planet’s side).  I don’t know if I can top that… however, I did want to remind you to show the Earth a little extra love today:

(Hat tip to Subroto Bagchi for inspiring the title of today’s post.)

Thank cuteness it’s Friday

Happy Friday!  Let’s get to it:

  1. Shannen Doherty turned 40 this week.  I already punnified the names of the main characters, but that doesn’t mean today’s punny pet names can’t still have a 90210 theme!  There’s one for the birthday girl, of course: Shannen Do-birdy.  Why stop there?  I give you Chasin’ Priestly.
  2. Baby rhino.  ‘Nuff said.
  3. Remember our roundup of animal odd couples?  The mismatched cuteness continues with a deer and a goose, as well as a cat and a dolphin.
  4. What’s awesome?  Dogs with jobs
  5. Those dogs have to get to work somehow.  Check out these photos of 50 dogs at 50 miles per hour.

I’m sure that after a long week at work, those dogs want nothing more than to relax with a round of golf.  Observe:

Have a puptastic weekend!

Flashback: Celebrating the cone of shame

It’s almost the first anniversary of I Still Want More Puppies, so
I’m sharing some of my favorite posts with you this week.  The post
below originally appeared on August 13, 2010.  Hope you enjoy!

Ah, the cone of shame.  Immortalized by Dug, that awesome dog in Up.  Speaking of, how awesome was Up in general?  So much fun, and so many quotable lines in that movie.  (One of my faves?  “My name is Dug. I have just met you, and I love you.”  Very dog-appropriate.)  Anyway, it seems like someone I know mentions the cone of shame at least once a week.  Although Bella’s never had to wear one, the mere mention makes me smile.  For that reason, it’s the theme of today’s No Frown Friday.  Here we go…
  1. As always on Friday, I bring you punny pet names.  Given this post’s medical undertone, this week’s names are doctor-inspired:  Dr. Cliff Pupstable, Dr. Chewingsbone (I presume), and Doogie Howler.  You should be proud… I didn’t go for the more obvious Doggie Howser joke.  Oh wait, just did…
  2. Looking to spice up your decor?  You can even decorate with the cone of shame.  Check out this awesome dog bowl from me me me.  (Thanks to under the blanket for the link!)  Perhaps you’d prefer this cone of shame nightlight.  Want something a little more cozy?  How about these cone of shame pillows?
  3. You can even wear your own cone of shame – in t-shirt form.  Check out this cute shirt featured on PetSugar.
The pup in the video below battles his cone of shame, then battles a water bottle.  The result is magic.

(Seriously… how could that not make you smile?  If that’s not enough cuteness for you, go check out another fun cone of shame video over on phetched.)

Because this post was inspired by Dug, I’ll leave you with a joke from the movie:  “Hey, I know a joke! A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, ‘I forgot to store acorns for the winter and now I am dead.’ Ha! It is funny because the squirrel gets dead.”

Tell it to your dog – I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.

Flashback: Corgi, P.I.

It’s almost the first anniversary of I Still Want More Puppies, so
I’m sharing some of my favorite posts with you this week.  The post
below originally appeared on May 14, 2010.  Hope you enjoy!

For the first time, No Frown Friday will let one specific breed take the spotlight.  It seemed like I kept encountering Corgis this week.  It’s a fitting breed for my first breed spotlight – although we’ve been told Bella is a cross between a Beagle and a Jack Russell Terrier, we often get asked if she’s part Corgi.  She does have comically large ears and is low to the ground.  So either that combination results in a suspiciously Corgi-like creature, or there’s some Corgi in her family tree.  Anyway, on with the Corgification:

  1. While watching the Daily Show on Monday night, I saw this segment about Britain’s hung Parliament (that’s right, I keep up with non-puppy news as well).  While the Daily Show is reliably funny, this segment had a little something special – punny pet names!  Specifically, Winston Furchill (a Corgi, of course) and Margaret Scratcher.  Classic.  With that in mind, my own punny pet name this week is based upon one of the talented actresses Britain has bestowed upon us: Mischa Barkton.  (I kid, I kid… but did you know she was born in England?)
  2. If you love Corgis, there’s a cute blog out there called the Daily Corgi where  I found this picture of a Corgi rocking Bella’s signature pose.  Or maybe Bella has stolen a signature Corgi pose?  The plot thickens…
  3. Who am I kidding?  As if I could only post one new punny pet name.  In honor of today’s Corgi focus, I give you Billy Corgi-an and Corgi Cox.
  4. I just learned that a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi is called a Cojack (info and plethora of adorable pictures here).  I now have an overwhelming urge to adopt one of these dogs, get him hooked on lollipops, and  train him to star in his own police drama.  It seems to me that their short stature makes them the perfect dog detective – they can sniff out clues while staying under the radar.  Also, they are short enough to simply trip bad guys when they try to make a run for it.  However, in order for this police drama to work, Cojack may need a taller dog as a sidekick so that he doesn’t miss any clues that are higher off the ground.
  5. In honor of the future interim Prime Minister, Sir Winston Furchill, here’s another noble Corgi, showing off his kibble dancing skills:

(via Cute Overload)

If you think a short and adorable dog might be for you and are interested in finding a Corgi of your very own, consider rescuing a Corgi.  I hear they are good sports and won’t be offended even if you constantly make fun of their height.  True story.

Have a good weekend, puppy pals!

Flashback: Head of the Class

I realized this week that it’s almost the one year anniversary of I Still Want More Puppies.  With that in mind, I thought I’d spend the week sharing some of my favorite posts from the past year.  This post originally appeared on September 17, 2010 (one of the many No Frown Friday installments).  An interesting update related to item #2 below – Yale now has a therapy pup on staff after all.  Guess I was just ahead of the curve.  Hope you enjoy!

Speed Bump
(via Speed Bump)

It’s September… which means school is back in session.  I haven’t been a student in quite some time.  Neither has Ms. Bella.  She did take one obedience course… seven years later, she does sit when asked (most of the time).

We’ve been lucky – Bella’s a fairly low-maintenance gal who doesn’t get into much trouble.  When we eventually adopt dog number two, we’ll have to be much more diligent!

If you haven’t already guessed, the topic of today’s No Frown Friday is… school!  Let’s hit the books:

  1. This week’s punny pet names are based on some famous names that chose the School of Life instead of a college degree: Drew Hairymore, Nose-Anne Barr, Roarin’ Beatty, and J.K. Howling.
  2. During college, I often found myself suffering from doggie withdrawal.  Earlier this week, I read that Yale Law School had recognized this epidemic, and offered a solution: if you needed a boost, you could check out Monty the pup for a 30 minute play date.  The circulation listing quoted in that post is so cute it’s out of control.  (A sample… “Subjects: Dogs in libraries; Stress reliever for law students.”)  It turns out that Monty might not have been available, but that’s okay.  A girl can dream.  I would have owed so much in overdue dog fees.
  3. Who needs obedience school? This “” has a college degree!
  4. You may (or may not) remember those great literary punny pet names I shared back in June.  In any event, there’s a second installment – quite a treat!  (Be sure to take the pun-filled quiz… I’m still giggling about Captain A. Lab.)
I’ve pulled today’s video out of the Internet archives, and dusted it off for your amusement.  I remember when I first saw this video last year. It quickly earned a place on my list of favorite things:

Reactions: (1) I would have been so much better at science if it was taught by puppies.  (2) I would like to open a school where all lessons are taught with the help of puppies.  (3)  I’ve already got a foolproof plan for the drama program.

Speaking of smarty pants pups, sometimes well-educated service dogs school others in the Americans with Disabilities Act.  If you want to learn more about the valedictorians of the doggie world – those amazingly smart service dogs – check out Canine Companions for Independence.  CCI spoke at Blog Paws West last weekend, and by all accounts it was amazing!

April Drools Day

It’s been one of those weeks… so glad it’s Friday!

  1. This week’s punny pet name: Teri Scratcher.
  2. Okay, you guys know I love the hipster puppies site.  This week, a friend introduced me to a hipster dog with a site all his own.  Cutest hipster ever?  It’s possible.
  3. So, it’s April Fools’ Day.  Are you into it?  Honestly, I’ve never been that excited by this holiday.  I propose we follow Grouchy Puppy’s advice, and change the name.  Who’s in?
  4. I will say, if all pranks were as cute as this one, perhaps I’d be a bigger fan.  (Also… Frogster. Nice.)
  5. Moving on from this silly day… I really want one of these cool sculptures featured at under the blanket.

Finally, check out this great new product from IKEA:

(via Best Week Ever)

I was forewarned that it was an April Fools’ Day joke… however, still pretty cute and puppy-themed, so I had to share.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Spring fever

I had a taste of spring this week.  It’s kind of chilly again now, but at least I know it’s around the corner!

  1. First up, your punny animal name: Moose Springsteen. (Or Goose Springsteen, if you prefer.)
  2. It’s almost spring – time to spruce up the outside of your home with some new flowers. (Whatever you choose, do your homework to make sure it’s safe for your pets!)  Park Avenue Chihuahua recently posted about an interesting option – a Chihuahua topiary!  Apparently if you’d like to decorate your yard with botanical canines, there are a lot of options out there.  Check out these Bowzai shrubs, for example.
  3. After a little more digging (wordplay!), I found some other puppy plants out there.  At least one site, GI Designs, seems to offer a variety of pet topiaries.  (You can find the selection here.) These things look a bit like Chia pets on steroids.  Honestly though, I do think this little terrier topiary is a bit charming.  Okay, okay… I’m rethinking my stance here, and may now really want one.
  4. In any event, these topiaries pale in comparison to the giant Puppy created by artist Jeff Koons.  For more information on Puppy and his world travels, check out this slideshow.
  5. You’ve probably already guessed that I have springtime on the brain.  Accordingly, I really enjoyed this list of the best places to see millions of spring flowers.
  6. On an unrelated note, you know how much I love the cone of shame.  So I have to advise you to enjoy these photos of 20 dogs wearing the cone of shame.  (Maybe we could say that the cones remind me of flowers?  Sure, let’s go with that.)

Finally, today’s video offering showcases a puppy discovering the wonders of spring:

Oops… wrong kind of spring.

Anyway, before I go, I’d also like to send a big thank you to All Things Dog Blog for honoring us with the Stylish Blogger Award.  Go visit and say hi!

Best post ever?

I have so much for you today that I won’t waste your time with an intro… on to the cute!

  1. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, this week’s punny pet names:  Peter O’Drool and Conan O’ Grrrrr-ien.
  2. So how did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day yesterday?  Was it as cute as this celebration at the zoo?
  3. I love March Madness. (Go George Mason!)  What better way to celebrate its arrival than by combining basketball and adorable animals
  4. Not into basketball?  That’s okay – Jezebel is running a Cats vs. Dogs bracket!  Yesterday, the Cheshire Cat triumphed over the Cat in the Hat, while the Pit Bull pulled off an upset over the Chihuahua.  Go check it out, and then keep an eye out for the next voting period!
  5. I don’t want to overplay my hand here, but I seriously think that this collection of 50 photos of Basset Hounds running might be one of the best things ever.  (Bonus installment: Basset Hounds having a Chariots of Fire moment on the beach.  Bonus bonus installment:  After I wrote that sentence, I searched and discovered that someone made a video of a Basset Hound running with a Chariots of Fire soundtrack.  It’s a good day.)

In conclusion, I want to croon the lyrics to Eternal Flame to the following video so that it knows how much I love it. Video, you complete me.

(via Jezebel)

This post is filled with so many best things ever that I don’t even know how to process it all.  So I’m going to go look at puppies and puppy products instead.  Happy Friday!

Happy happy joy joy!

I’m so happy it’s Friday – life has just been too busy lately!  I plan to spend some time this weekend catching on the blogging world.  Right now, however, it’s time for your weekly dose of Friday randomness (extra random this week, in fact):

  1. This week’s punny pet names are inspired by the deep thoughts Bella plagiarized from an old Saved by the Bell episode (by now, you may have realized that I’m a tad obsessed):  Zack Roarris and Kelly Ka-meowski.  I’ll leave it to you, dear reader, to come up with a good pun for A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano.  No changes needed to Lisa Turtle or Screech Powers!
  2. Ah, the television of my youth.  I’m sure by now you’ve figured out I’m quite nostalgic on that front.  So you can imagine my excitement when I read that TeenNick has dusted off some classic shows from the 90s and will be re-airing them.  Life was always so much better when Clarissa explained it all.  However, one complaint – where’s Hey Dude?
  3. Putting nostalgia aside for a moment, let’s enjoy some cute!  Check out these adorable maned wolf pups at the Houston Zoo.
  4. Feel like doing some baking this weekend?  Try to do better than the decorators who created these animal-themed cake wrecks.  If you need to cleanse your palate after the wreckage, I recommend checking out these amazing Dr. Seuss-themed cakes.  I want.
  5. Does your dog wish he was a fashion plate?  If so, these photos of 20 dogs (plus one kitten) wearing bow ties will help your dog navigate the tricky world of canine couture.  (I adore these photo collections from Doggie Stylish – Bella even made a cameo in one of them!)

Okay, apparently I had more linkage for you today than I realized.  It’s not over yet.  I hope you can handle one more dose of Nickelodeon randomness from the 90s…

I am amazed that I was able to easily find a video combining puppies and the scattered nostalgia of today’s post.  The Internet really does have everything.  Happy weekend!
