Moonwalking down memory lane…
I’m feeling nostalgic today (and every day, but let’s set that problem aside for now). Maybe this weekend I’ll bust out my jelly shoes and play with my Brenda Walsh paper doll.
Oh, wait. I own neither of those things. Tragic.
- First up, your punny pet name: Henona Ryder (or Winona Flyder).
- On a pun-related note, these reworked movie posters are killing me. Seriously, how did I never come up with Abraham Lynxin?
- Continuing on the poster theme, these minimalist posters of children’s classics are pretty neat.
- Seriously though, I’m beginning to question my pun-slinging skills. I also wish that I had come up with Ernest Lemingway.
- Given that I mentioned both Winona and good ol’ Brenda Walsh above, do you love the movie Heathers? If not, might I ask… what is your damage?
- Speaking of damage, this article about Jem and the Holograms may have broken my brain.
- Now I’m going to be singing this all day.
You know, this cat can moonwalk better than I ever could:
Thanks for joining me on this (moon)walk down memory lane!
(Don’t forget – the #SuperDogPics Twitter party is this Sunday. Have you RSVP’d?)
Interior de-whine: 7 tips for a pet-unfriendly home
Welcome back, students. In our last session, I taught you how to be a highly irritating dog walker. I’m glad to see that you refuse to stop there. I can tell that you love to learn. Or that you just love to be annoying. Either way, you’re in luck. It’s time for another free lesson.
Today’s topic? Creating a pet-unfriendly home. I know I’ve read a ton of articles about pet-friendly decor. It seems like the discussion has been a bit one-sided thus far, however. Where is the advice for people who don’t want to create a pet-friendly home? Won’t anyone help those who want to make their homes as unsuited to living with a pet as possible?
Never fear. Today, I am unleashing (pun intended and also a lesson from our first seminar) my inner Vern Yip (no pun needed). There’s no reason you should sacrifice your style for your pets. Make them accommodate you instead. Continue reading
No Frown Friday: “What is a weekend?” edition
It’s time for another Friday link roundup, although I’m sure the Dowager Countess would wonder what makes that so darn special.
- Today’s punny pet names: Waggy Smith and Kelly Barkson. (Have I used that last one before? I don’t think so, but that is surprising. I’m a huge Kelly fan.)
- Speaking of puns, I can’t decide which is my favorite of these. (Though I think it might be #9.)
- Dog or lion? You be the judge.
- I’ll be watching the Golden Globes and spending my Sunday evening with my imaginary best friends Tina and Amy. (Not that they are imaginary… just that my being best friends with them is a figment of my overactive imagination.) What about you?
- If MTV ever makes True Life: I’m Addicted to Awards Shows, they should totally give me a call. Anyway… enjoy these honest titles for Oscar-nominated movies.
- You know, I always wondered where kittens came from. Now I know.
- Say hi to your weather forecast for me.
- On an unrelated note (as if the others were actually related), I want all of these cakes. All of them. Bring them to me!
- I’m beginning to think that I’ll never get tired of hilarious auto-corrects. Perhaps it’s a new addiction to add to my awards show one.
- Houndton Tabby? Yes, please.
Speaking of Downton Abbey, I feel like the following parody would make a great cat food commercial.
I also have a fun bit of news to share with you today. Much like these dogs, I’m already thinking about the Super Bowl (and our annual Super Bowl party). In related news, did you know that the Puppy Bowl includes hedgehogs this year? Hedgehogs. Amazing.
Anyway… in years past, I’ve participated in the Super Dog Sunday blog hop. This year, I’ve been invited to be a member of the Cheer Team to promote this year’s Super Dog Sunday photo contest, which will benefit the Petfinder Foundtion. I’ll be posting more info soon, but you can go here to get a little preview if you just can’t wait. Stay tuned…
Looking for a great dog blog? Kol’s Notes explains it all
You may have heard about the Pet Blogger Gift Exchange in your travels around the Interwebs. If not, I have to tell you – it’s pretty darn cool. Pamela from Something Wagging This Way Comes had a flash of inspiration recently – instead of gifts, let’s exchange compliments, encouragement, and some love.
When I found out the blogger I’d been paired with, I could not have been more thrilled. Perhaps you’re familiar with the lovely Jodi (pictured below with pups Koly and Felix) from Kol’s Notes?
She’s pretty darn awesome. (Dear Jodi: I borrowed these photos from your site. I hope you don’t mind. If you do, please do not send a zombie after me unless absolutely necessary. Thanks!)
I spent a lot of time thinking about my gift to Jodi. I finally settled on a No Frown Friday dedicated to the genius that is Kol’s Notes. An epic one, in fact. If you’re not already a devotee, you really should be. Today, you’ll find out why. (At the end of this post, you’ll also find out how you can help me make this gift really special.)
Intrigued? Let’s start at the top. Just check out this header… Continue reading
The gift of the Dog Eyes
The best things happen when a dog & penguin are dancing…
‘Twas the last No Frown Friday before Christmas and all through the blogs, my readers were wondering if I’d still post about dogs.
The answer is yes. Let’s do this.
- First up, your punny pet names: Bark Griswold and George Tailey.
- I guess we made it through that whole apocalypse thing okay, huh? At least it gave me this photo. And this pun. Worth it.
- As the world did not end, your weird holiday traditions can continue unabated.
- So, what should I watch to get into the holiday spirit this weekend? (Animal Planet totally stole that “pup culture” thing from this blog, right? I kid, I kid… although perhaps they should have hired me as a consultant. I could have provided some high quality puns. For example, they went with Fluffy Phelps, but I would have argued for Michael Whelps. Nailed it.)
- Moving on… I’m digging some of these TV-themed Christmas cards.
- If you are still not sure what to buy me for Christmas, my Lionel Richie wishlist just grew by one cheesy item.
- Do you wrap presents for your furry family members?
- Okay, these may not be appropriate for younger audiences, but the 25 Funniest AutoCorrects of 2012 are absolutely hilarious. I was laughing so hard I was crying. Consider it my present to you.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Kitty
Happy holidays, friends! It’s time for your weekly link roundup…
- First up, your punny pet names: Norman Tockwell, Mariah Hairy, and Brenda Flea. (Also, meet Salvador Doggy.)
- Corgi with your legs so short, for sleigh-pulling duty, please report.
- All dogs go to… law school?
- Much like my own dogs during the holidays, these dogs are So. Over. It. (These cats, on the other hand, are making the most of the giant scratching post you so kindly installed.)
- Is it time for Downton Abbey to return yet? (I always type that as Downtown Abbey, which is a show I would also watch.) Until then, enjoy Breaking Abbey.
- Holiday overload? Yes, please.
- I whipped up a batch of homemade butterbeer once. It was glorious. I think I want some right now.
Finally, here’s today’s video:
Epic.

Getting into the holiday spirit…
It’s time for your Friday linkage…
- Your punny pet name: Bob Scratchit.
- We’ll start with a little shameless self-promotion. My long-dormant baking blog is back on the scene! Wondering what to make for the holidays? Check out my recipe for Coconut BonBons.
- Not sure what to get your furry (or feathered) friend this holiday season? Here are some great ideas.
- I can’t get enough Grumpy Cat. The 12 Days of Christmas will never be the same.
- Best version of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas ever? You be the judge.
- Definitely an awesome holiday window display.
- I just got my holiday cards – now I just need to find the time to address them. (I used to be a Kodak Gallery gal, but they don’t do the cards online anymore. I tried Snapfish this time around – what service do you use?) Speaking of great Christmas cards, have you seen the White House one this year? Adorbs.
Finally, it’s time for today’s video. I figure you can’t go wrong with Simon’s Cat:

Smiling’s my favorite!
As I recently mentioned, I’m well behind on my monthly roundups. However, let’s just consider this belated October installment an early Christmas gift. (By that logic, I’m actually ahead of the game.)
Anyway, I believe that Buddy the Elf would totally support me sharing these posts guaranteed to make you smile. Enjoy. If you need me, I’ll be enjoying selections from the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup. Continue reading
