Obligatory legal disclosure: BumperPet provided me with two free t-shirts to give away to you, dear readers. The thoughts below, however, are my own. Promise.
Today’s post contains a few key items. Among them? Puppies, a spinning wheel, adorable adoptables, prizes, and a t-shirt giveaway (at the end of this post). Who could ask for anything more? If you’re still not convinced, I submit the following photo for your consideration:
Many of the sessions at BlogPaws were about the nuts and bolts of blogging. After all, it’s important to know what you have in your toolbox when you’re building a blog. One of my favorite sessions of the conference sounded like it would also be about tools – but it was really about heart.
The session had an simple enough title: “Make Some NOISE – How to Connect All Your Social Media & Create Buzz.” The speakers for this session were Eldad Hagar and Annie Hart, two rescue rock stars. Eldad works with Hope for Paws, Annie works with the Bill Foundation, and they both work together to make a difference for animals in need.
It was a very informative session, but it was also a very emotional one. Eldad and Annie showed us two videos. I’d seen the first one before, but it rained on my face anyway. (Grab a tissue and go watch it. It’s about Janie, a dog with a broken back and a wounded spirit. As you’ll see, she needed more than surgery to heal her heart. I love a happy ending.)
I thought I’d share the second video here today. We got a sneak preview at BlogPaws, but the video was posted on YouTube this past Friday. It was beautiful to see two different organizations working together to promote each other’s missions. We really can reach more people together than we can alone.
In addition to giving my tear ducts a workout, Eldad and Annie shared a number of useful tips. However, the most important thing I took away that day was inspiration.
My pups know that the freezer must contain some interesting art or a brainteaser, as I’m often staring in there at night while pondering something. (You know, like whether to have an ice cream sandwich.)
Today, Petfinder is encouraging bloggers to talk about how awesome cats are. Now, don’t tell Bella and Tavish, but I happen to agree. My first pet was actually a pretty cool cat named Buttercup.
Fun fact: pom-poms can double as a cat bed
So, in honor of Buttercup and awesome cats (and cat lovers) everywhere, today’s links are feline-focused. Enjoy some kitty cuteness, and then get out there and adopt a cat! (Let me assure you – I would happily do so if Bella and Tavish were not champion cat chasers. Maybe they need to read this post.)
What should you name your new cat? Here are some punny pet names to get you started: Meowie Long, Rachel Scratch, and Meoward Stern.
There are many reasons to adopt a cat. For example, do you need of a skilled goalie in the house?
Seriously though, in spite of all of the silly reasons I listed above, there’s only one reason you really need to know. Cats are awesome.
Also, I give a huge thumbs up to any animal that gives me a reason to make a Lionel Richie reference.
Hello, is it an adorable kitty you’re looking for?
If so, head on over to Petfinder and search for an adoptable cat near you! Then take lots of photos and tell everyone else you know why adopting a cat is the best. The Internet is sorely lacking in cat pictures, after all.
I recently shared video of some dock diving dogs at the Super Pet Expo last month. I’m not done yet… in addition to dock diving, attendees were treated to an agility demonstration and some amazing disc dogs.
Today, I wanted to share some footage of the agility demo by Marvelous Mutts (all rescues… yay!). Enjoy these super speedy pups:
Seriously. I love this girl. Adoptable Queenie is looking for a home, and she’s in the northern Virginia area. Check her out at the Friends of Homeless Animals website.
Okay, so I know that this clip is basically everywhere right now. However, given that it exemplifies puns and song parodies at their finest, I just had to share it here too:
I know I did not post my usual Friday link post yesterday. It’s been a busy week, which means I’m being a bad blogger. So, please enjoy this video I took at the Super Pet Expo last weekend as an apology of sorts.
The Marvelous Mutts (all rescues!) were on the scene, and they performed some amazing aerial feats for the crowd:
I can’t imagine Bella or Tavish doing this stuff. In particular, Tavish is like a Gremlin and hates to get wet. Do you think your dogs would be into dock diving?
This past weekend, I attended the Super Pet Expo in northern Virginia. I actually ended up going twice. On Friday, I went with a few friends to do some shopping. Then on Sunday, I volunteered at the Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) dog booth.
I’m full of post ideas after this weekend. Today, I thought I’d start by sharing the damage the expo did to my pocketbook. I managed not to buy all the things, but I did buy a few. Prepare for an onslaught of photos…
Remember Bella’s intelligence test? Maybe I should try that one out on Tavish. In any event, apparently there’s now a whole website devoted to helping you find out if your dog is smarter than your average Bella.
