If our pets ever learn to read, we’re all in big trouble…

You know, if our pets could read what we say about them online, they might be both flattered and horrified. After all, we sometimes share their most embarrassing moments on the Internet for all to see.

I’m pretty sure that if Bella and Tavish could type, they’d start a blog about me in retaliation. I shudder to think of the photos they would post for Wordless Wednesday. (They’re cute when they sleep, but I’m a drooling mess.)

someecards.com - I wonder if my cat would think I'm too clingy if it ever saw how many of its pictures are on my Facebook page.

Let’s just all be thankful that our pets can’t read, okay? Here are a few posts that made me smile in the month of July. Feel free to read them aloud to your illiterate pets:

  1. True Love from BZ Training – I’m pretty sure Bella’s true love is the air vent in our bedroom. I’m not sure about Tavish though.
  2. The Unbearable Cuteness of Being Free from Chronicles of Cardigan – An overload of amazing (and amusing) photos.
  3. 10 Funniest Reasons To Not Let Your Dog Go Along In Your Car This Summer from Something Wagging This Way Comes – I’ve often wished that my dog would count when I want to take the HOV lane.
  4. Get the ducks in a row from Rumblebum – The captions had me giggling like a fool. I’m okay with that.
  5. Accommodating Your Dog’s Feelings: I’m Just Going Out With The Garbage, Honey from Dawg Business – The things we do for our beloved pups…
  6. 10 Things My Anxious Dog Does That I Wish Were Socially Acceptable for Me to Do from A Brave Face – I’m especially keen on numbers 4 and 7.
  7. Favorite Friday Video – Best Friends, Border Collie Style from No Dog About It – I adore this video!
  8. Abandon All Hope, Ye Dog Toys Who Enter Here from Tales and Tails – Oh no, Mr. Bill… for the love of dog, oh no!
  9. My day as a dog from 24 Paws of Love – Not a bad idea at all.
  10. I Vow to My Foster Dog from Dog House Adoptions – Are you ready to say “I do”? (As to why this has resulted in me serenading the pups with Madonna, I do not know. “Cherish is the word I use to remind me of… your love.”)
  11. How do we benefit from loving an older dog? from Grouchy Puppy – As I’ve said before, senior dogs rock!

Did I miss any of your favorite posts from last month? It happens – although I’d like to do nothing but read all the blogs, that pesky job thing gets in the way. Also, as I mentioned above, it’s not like the pups can help by reading a few for me.  Anyway, feel free share your favorite July posts in the comments so that we can all enjoy them!

A fairy tail ending…

It’s time for your No Frown Friday link roundup – let’s get to it!

  1. First up, your punny pet names: Snow Bite and Finderella (for a fish, of course).
  2. Speaking of puns, this link has superhero dog puns for days. It’s glorious.
  3. Fairy tales are on my mind this week thanks to this wonderful post: Six Fairy Tales for the Modern Woman. (I rarely say this, but even the comments are worth reading. The whole page is full of win.)
  4. What say you, Feminist Taylor Swift? Sounds right up your alley. Sing it, sister.
  5. In other fairy tale-type news, I’m intrigued by this story.
  6. I like my princesses sassy and not focused solely on finding a prince. (Listen closely, Mr. Mouse.) Too many frogs out there anyway, am I right?
  7. If you do find yourself surrounded by frogs, just shake it off. It’ll be okay.

    Shake it off.

  8. Anyway… I’m sorry, Dog Mario, but your princess is in another castle. Again. Feel like you’ve made a huge mistake? Perhaps you should just relax on the porch and just let her rescue herself.
  9. Maybe it’s better to be Queen instead. Or maybe it’s more fun to be a villain? Either way, I’m sure that whatever you choose, it’ll be just peachy.

In any event, enjoy your quest. Bonus points if you look this cute while doing it:

Finally, I thought I’d do a quick roundup of what’s been happening on the blog this week. So, in case you missed it:

Have a great weekend!

Fourteen fun posts from some furry (and funny) friends

I’ve been a bit behind on my monthly roundups. The past few months have been pretty busy. Given how often I probably complain about being busy, I feel like I should recognize how annoying that might be. Sorry, friends.

someecards.com - Thanks for all the time you spend listening to me complain about not having enough time.

Puppies & poppies for Memorial Day

It’s Memorial Day here in the U.S., so I thought I’d take a momentary break from the silly. (Well, mostly. I just had to share this one.)

Today, my thoughts often go to the poem In Flanders Field. It turns out that I’m not the only one – you should hop over to Tales and Tails and My Brown Newfies to learn more about this poem and the Buddy Poppy. Like Ms. Taleteller, I didn’t see anyone selling Buddy Poppies this year either, and I was surprised. I actually keep one on my desk at work – it serves as a reminder of my grandfather’s service in WWII and all that he and so many others have given to protect our country.

I also wanted to share a few other links today:

  • In addition to valiant humans, many dogs have served our country, including Military Working Dogs.
  • These photos of soldiers and animals will melt your heart.
  • You can help rescue dogs get paired with veterans with just a click.
  • I didn’t have a chance to take a patriotic photo of the pups, but this one from BZ Training should do quite nicely.

That’s all for today, folks. To those of you in the U.S., I hope you have a peaceful Memorial Day.

8 reasons to smile today

I’m pretty far behind on my monthly roundups (and on everything else lately). So, before May is upon us, I thought I’d share my favorite posts from the month of February. (See? Really far behind.)

Anyway, enjoy these posts that made me smile during my least favorite month:

  1. {This Moment} See Beautiful – Sometimes she’s just a normal dog from Bringing Up Bella – This post makes my heart smile.
  2. Wordless Wednesday 2/13 – You Have To Kiss A Lot Of Frogs from Tales and Tails – Dogs. Frogs. Rhymes. Good times. (I am such a nerd.)
  3. Monday Mischief from Heart Like a Dog – This one reminds me of the time Bella decided to go snow swimming.
  4. Wondering what “single” cats are doing for Valentine’s Day? from Cat Chat – I couldn’t stop laughing.
  5. It’s Never the Dog’s Fault: A Felix-y Flashback from Kol’s Notes – A sweet story and one that focuses on Felix? Awesome.
  6. Where’s Momo? from The Poodle (and Dog) Blog – I think I just found my new favorite game.
  7. Speaking to Dogs So They Don’t Understand You from Something Wagging This Way Comes – I know I tend to spell around the d-o-g-s so that they don’t know what I’m talking about. Do you?
  8. Why My Rottweiler Let My Pomeranian Beat Her Up – And Other Important Questions from Rescued Insanity – Simply genius.

I should be back to a regular posting schedule soon… bear with me, dear readers.

Erin go bark (or St. Catrick’s Day?)

Obviously, Friday links are a little late. Let’s just call it a Shamrock Saturday instead. After all, given that St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday, could I choose any other theme?

  1. First up, your punny pet name: Sinead O’Collar.
  2. I’d like to follow that up with a little shameless self-promotion. Looking for a dessert to make this weekend? Try my recipe for Whiskey Beeramisu (aka Irish Tiramisu). That’s right. I don’t mess around.
  3. If that’s not your speed, how about Green Beer Cupcakes or Spotted Dog?
  4. No time? I guess you could just buy a dessert instead.
  5. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way… can we discuss how weird this Lucky Charms video is? It’s like they want me to have breakfast at a dance club. (Idea: spoons that double as glow sticks. You’re welcome, party kids.)
  6. What are your plans this weekend? Whatever you do, remember to beware the sides of starch.
  7. Speaking of things that rhyme with starch, will you be giving in to March Madness? If basketball’s not your thing, you can always play Animals March Madness instead.
  8. Did you know that Greyhounds have some Irish history?
  9. Enjoy this Corgi limerick! (Also, this next link in no way relates to today’s theme, but I don’t care. The Corgi’s name is Corgnelious. I had no choice.)
  10. If you, like me, enjoy the occasional Shamrock Shake (I allow myself one per year and try not to think about how horrible it is for me), I want to let you in on a little secret. Ask for it half Shamrock, half chocolate. You won’t be sorry. (Allegedly, it’s called the McLeprechaun, but somehow I doubt that my local McDonald’s would have known that if I’d tried to order it that way.)

Finally, today’s video. There are no words…

Do you have big plans for St. Patrick’s Day?

9 posts to beat the February blahs

Obviously, I’m a bit behind. Nonetheless, I’m finally sharing the roundup of some of the posts I enjoyed in December, which seems so very long ago.

(Don’t take it personally. I currently have seven episodes of Nashville, thirteen episodes of Arrow, four episodes of Dallas, and twelve episodes of Boardwalk Empire waiting for me on my DVR… not to mention the shows that have more than one word in their titles.)

  1. It’s gonna be a White Christmas!!! from Ryker Rules – Loving these photos.
  2. Although it’s been said many times, many ways… from Cardiganshire Corgis – Speaking of awesome photos, this one cracked me up.
  3. Meme-ing our life away from You Did What With Your Wiener – I can’t choose a favorite, but these are great.
  4. 8 Holiday Questions for 8 Authors from Pooch Smooches – Carol of the Balls, anyone? Love it.
  5. Dog a Day Project: Happy Hanukkah! from Doggie Stylish – Puns!
  6. This Is My Settle Down And Take A Breath And Enjoy The Wonderfulness Post from My Brown Newfies – We all need to do this from time to time.
  7. from Something Wagging this Way Comes – I can’t argue with any these.
  8. Looking for More Beautiful from Tales and Tails – Exactly what I needed.
  9. You Might Be Dog Crazy If… from Rescued Insanity – Someone should add this list to the DSM. Diagnosis? We’re all mad here.

Hope you enjoy these! I hope to get the January roundup to you sooner rather than later… but I won’t be so foolish as to make any promises.
