Follow-Up Friday: Thelma & Louise edition

I’ve got something a little different for you today. Instead of my usual No Frown Friday, I’m changing things up a bit.

This week, I have the pleasure of co-hosting Heart Like a Dog‘s Follow-Up Friday. It’sĀ the blog hop that lets you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Let’s get to it!

A valley of cat scratches?

Well, this post went live during the first full day of BlogPaws. It seems like everyone was occupied – or you guys thought I finally went off the deep end with my endless Great Catsby puns. In any event,Ā the post only garnered one comment! However, that one comment was from none other than Jodi from Heart Like a Dog, so I just had to share and wanted to thank her for stopping by. (Even better? While at BlogPaws, I bonded with Jodi instantly. You can just call us Thelma & Louise.)

Crafts for dogs: Build a couch fort

While I was at BlogPaws, Tavish engaged in one of his favorite activities – constructing with couch cushions. Based on the comments, it sounds like he’s not the only one who enjoys tossing the cushions everywhere. I look forward to seeing creations from some of my favorite Blogville pups, including Bunny from Tales and Tails. However, some were suspicious of his skills – Ryker even asked if Tavish was part cat! Elyse and Riley asked where Bella was during this bout of creativity. I’m pretty sure she was busy watching the back of her eyelids. My favorite comment, however, came from Pamela:

So you have a barkitecht in the family, huh? A regular I.M. (pup)Pei? This generationā€™s Frank Lloyd Bite? Perhaps the next Mies Van der Ruff?

You better stop me. I could do this all day.

Why would I ever want to stop her? I mean, there are puns.Ā Puns, people. I’m pretty sure those make up my life force.

7 dogs you might not want to invite to your summer barbecue

Obviously, I was feeling a bit silly on Tuesday. In any event, several of you agreed with me that you’d totally invite these dogs anyway. We are all powerless to resist the cute, obviously. Ā I also loved the additions you guys made to the list. Peggy suggested that we addĀ the dog who drinks too much and the dog who hits on all the ladies. Peta even envisioned the perfect photos for a dog who can’t hold his alcohol – humping or peeing on a leg were involved!

Sugar asked if I’d be making some cupcakes over Memorial Day weekend. I don’t have any plans in place, but never say never!

Captioning like cats & dogs: BlogPaws edition

For Wordless Wednesday, I shared photos of a few of the non-human attendees at BlogPaws. My favorite caption came from Jackie, who suggested:

ā€œI knew I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glueā€ from Airplane.

Classic. Kolchak, Felix & Jodi said what we were all thinking. Who here isn’t obsessed with Dewi? That’s what I thought. Leslie also commented upon the Corgi love – noting that she was so busy loving onĀ Dewi and Jon Farleigh that she forgot to take a photo of them. I can totally understand that!

Bloggers are kind of like cicadas

So, in this post I explained the ways that I thought pet bloggers resembled cicadas. I also insulted and apologized to those cicadas, and packed the post with Arrested Development GIFs. There was a lot going on.

I was pleased to find a fewĀ AD fans in the comments, including Pamela, who noted:

Ā I worry that some of your readers who didnā€™t watch Arrested Development might think this post was like Barry Zuckerkorn leaping over the predator who bit off the fin of the loose seal.

She may have a point. Apologies to you non-AD fans – I seriously can’t help myself.

someecards.com - I hope the new season of Arrested Development lives up to your expectations of being the best thing that's ever happened in your entire life.

This seems about right.

Vicki made some interesting observations about conferences full of introverts, while Taryn observed that it’s probably a good thing that bloggers aren’t on a 17-year cycle like this year’s cicadas. I can’t argue with that!

Elizabeth KĀ noted that she was starting to have compassion for cicadas, and won the Internet with this comment:

If only I could molt my 20-lb., dried up and overly taut exoskeleton. Because Iā€™m sure I just have a really heavy exoskeleton.

Kolchak, Felix & Jodi were totally on board with this idea too, as was I. How do we make this happen?

Now it’s your turn! It’s a Follow-Up Friday blog hop hosted by I Still Want More Puppies and Heart Like a Dog, so please join us.

  1. Oh Thelma! What a great post. You cannot imagine my excitement when you offered to co-host, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I had hoped some of your puniness would rub off on me last weekend, but sadly that is not the case. I guess it’s just a skill you either have or you don’t and I don’t. šŸ™

Thanks again for co-hosting, it was a pleasure having you.

“I know it’s crazy, but I feel like you just got a knack for this shit.” šŸ˜‰

    • Don’t worry – No Frown’s not going anywhere! I just intend to mix in a few other hops from time to time. Seems like there’s a lot happening on Fridays now!

  2. Mom met you at Blogpaws and chatted with you at dinner but work has been crazy for her this week so we haven’t been able to go through all the cards she brought home yet…maybe this weekend? So glad we found your blog through Jodi’s blog hop as she enjoyed meeting you and really wanted to check out your blog, now I have subscribed šŸ™‚ Mom has told everyone about the naked people mural in restaurant you all went to last Friday night…as a dog I don’t see the issue but it is one of the memorable experiences mom has from Blogpaws. Tell your pup to keep building with those couch cushions…sound like fun!

  3. I’ve gone out of my way not to watch Thelma and Louise but I know enough about it to hope you and Jodi don’t follow them too closely.

That said, we really need a good women’s buddy movie. Until then, why don’t you one of you be Bart the Sheriff and the other be Jim in Blazing Saddles?

BTW, I’m a serious Arrested Development Addict so I’m not sure how many of your readers will get the jump-the-shark reference. Mike saw it 3 or 4 times before he picked up on it.

If you’re a Netflix person, will you tell me if it’s worth joining to watch the new season? I’m worried to hear that much of the filming was done without the actors being in the same room. Ugh!

    • True… I definitely don’t want our journey to end like the one in the movie! (Speaking of women’s buddy movies, I’m curious to check out this summer’s The Heat with Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthy. Is it too much to hope that there won’t be a romantic subplot for the characters? Probably…)

I’ll definitely give you my thoughts once I get a little deeper in. I’ve watched 4 episodes so far – I’ve seen a lot of criticism online, but I think that partially stems from the fact that everyone has been hyping it up as the most amazing thing to ever happen to humanity. So it’s hard for people to not be disappointed if that’s the starting point, I think. I’m enjoying them so far, but I think there’s a value in spacing them out and not trying to watch them all at once.
