(Before you get too excited, the answer is not that my blog spent a Saturday morning in detention leading to romance with a young Judd Nelson.)
You might have noticed that it’s been quiet around here lately.
I’m not quite sure why, but I’ve been suffering from an epic case of writer’s block. When I can convince myself to sit down in front of the laptop (which is a challenge in and of itself), I can’t seem to find the motivation to write a post.
I had the best of intentions for the month of April. “I’ll post every single day!” I declared. (Lest you think I made this declaration without a witness, Bella – who can’t hear anything – was there. That counts, right?)
Obviously, that didn’t happen. However, in two days this blog will be hitting a milestone. It’s turning five four years old.
I feel like a parent who forgot to put together the toys on Christmas Eve. It’s in danger of becoming a real Sixteen Candles situation. (Do you think the blog knows that I almost forgot its birthday?) Time is ticking away, and I’d better scramble to get that gift assembled before the (blog) kid wakes up. (Let’s all hope that this metaphorical toy isn’t from IKEA, or I’m doomed.)
In any event, I’m still trying to figure out how to celebrate this milestone. I need to channel my inner Stella and get my blogging groove back. Either that, or I’m going to let Tavish walk on the keyboard and just publish whatever he creates.
(Fun fact: Tavish once walked on my husband’s work laptop and somehow responded to an email with a single perfect “?” – he doesn’t mince words.)
So, what I’m trying to say is that this blog is almost five four years old. Pretty soon, it’ll be starting kindergarten (or something). I should probably stop neglecting it before it decides that it’s too cool to hang out with me anymore.
In any event, I hope to return to a more regular blogging schedule soon. The spirit just has not been moving me lately. This too shall pass, right?
I’m sure I’ll be assaulting you with bad puns again soon. You’ve been warned.
Well I sure miss you lots. Happy 5th birthday, blog. That’s a very ripe old age in blog years so it’s no wonder you’re having a bit of aching bones. Sometimes the best thing you can do is walk away from a ‘problem’ for a while so you can figure it all out again. Not that I’m saying you should walk away for even a moment but if you’re struggling to write, don’t beat yourself up over it. Let go of the guilt, take a breather and enjoy life a little. We’ll be here waiting on your return.

I know where you are coming from. I had to take a break several months ago. I didn’t set a time to start blogging again, I just did when it felt good again.

Maybe it’s the “5 year itch” as I too have been lacking motivation and my 5 year anniversary is approaching in early June. Over the winter, while recuperating from my broken kneecap, I didn’t do much, which led to far fewer pictures being taken, which led to less inspiration for the blog, which led to less posts…and then I got comfortable with less time spent on the laptop….It’s a vicious cycle! LOL!
Here’s to getting your groove back!

That’s interesting… I wonder how many other people have hit this point about five years in?
Happy almost 5th anniversary. Blogs are forgiving like dogs are so I wouldn’t worry about neglecting it. Looking forward to you resolve.

Well, we all know how things turned out in the end for Molly on that forgotten birthday. (We do all know that, right??) So I’d say even if your blog has been a tiny bit neglected, good things are in store for it. Like, Jake-Ryan-good.

Oh, I hope so. It’s hard to top Jake-Ryan-good. 🙂
I am sure it will. Maybe celebrate by taking a little time away? It may help you discover what you love about blogging?! Can I ask – the Colin Firth clip where is it from? I can’t think and it is annoying me!!

Pride & Prejudice. 🙂
So, I freaking love Molly Ringwald movies. Such a great comparison! Congrats on hitting such a huge milestone! I’m sure when the right inspiration strikes, your block will just disappear.
