It’s raining cats and dogs (and awesome blogs)!

Well, a new month is upon us, which means that it’s time for another monthly roundup. In light of the fact that it’s an April roundup, let’s just say I’m showering you with some awesome blog posts. No umbrella needed. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite posts from the last month:

  1. The worst thing my dog destroyed was… from No Dog About It – This post had me strolling down Memory Lane, remembering when my childhood pup Scotti demonstrated what she thought of my reading choices.
  2. The Joys of Stupid Dogs from Doggies and Stuff – I mean, I’m not saying Bella’s stupid… but she’s not really very smart. Remember the treat test?
  3. Random Thoughts from Basset Momma – A fantastic twist on the “this is your brain on drugs” thing from back in the day.
  4. Why You Should Never Use Your Daughter’s Favorite Stuffed Animal as a Dog Prop from My Brown Newfies – A good (and hilarious) lesson for us all.
  5. Dogs in the Movies from under the blanket – These posters are just too cool.
  6. You Can’t Do That! Oh Yeah? Watch Me! from Something Wagging This Way Comes – My new mantra: be the St. Bernard.
  7. Doggy Style Pick-Up Lines, also from Something Wagging – Hilarity doesn’t even begin to describe this one. (Pamela, you need to stop being so awesome. Actually… don’t.)
  8. January is Train Your Dog Month from Bringing Up Bella – Yes, it’s from April. Yes, it’s fantastic. (Bonus points for the perfectly chosen soundtrack.)
  9. You call me a Pit Bull like it’s a bad thing from Oh, Corbin – This post is just plain fantastic.
Gratuitous Bellaface!

And here are nine more!

  1. The Optimism of Cats and Dogs from Life with Sampson and Delilah – I love this story. I can picture it all playing out, as clear as day.
  2. Blog the Change: The Kindness of a Stranger from Kol’s Notes – A truly inspirational post.
  3. Be a Billboard for a Good Cause from Daley’s Dog Years – This post inspired me to purchase a shirt. That’s how good it is. (Seriously though – an adorable shirt and spreading a good message? You can’t beat that.)
  4. Cute Welsh Corgis and Guys in Ties from Chronicles of Cardigan – Sounds like a good combo to me.
  5. This is why I don’t travel with family from Pawcurious – This one cracked me up, especially the reference to Dr. Google. I can’t seem to break up with that guy. He’s like a bad boyfriend.
  6. Video Monday: If  you were a dog toy from Grouchy Puppy – Although now I am channeling Beyonce and singing “If I were a boy,” this video has nothing to do with that.
  7. The Top Ten Reasons Why Dog Teens are Better than Human Teens from Arwen’s Pack – Redirecting a sullen teenager using a squeaky toy? If only…
  8. Cats in Space from Bunny’s Blog – You know I love any excuse to reference [insert noun here]… in… space!
  9. Dog Song Saturday: Songs of the Dog Walker from Talking Dogs – You can’t go wrong with this one. (However, I will never be able to reference Wayne Brady without thinking of this moment.)
Did I miss any of your favorites? Share them in the comments!

Dogs and (not in) space!

We’ve already covered dogs (and rocks and Corgis and Ryan Gosling) in space on this blog. Today, we’re just talking about dogs… and then talking about space.

First up, a Bella glamour shot. (Better than these glamour shots, right? Fun fact: I used to work in a one-hour photo joint and occasionally helped out with glamour shoots in our small town portrait studio.)

Anyway, I just love this photo of Bella. I think it’s the ears…

Speaking of photos, it was a big day in DC yesterday. The space shuttle Discovery was flown over DC on the back of a 747 before landing at Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia. The shuttle will soon be on display at the the National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center. It was a bittersweet day, but it definitely made for a cool photo op.

People all over the DC metro area were outside, trying to catch a glimpse of Discovery. Here’s one of my photos from the big day – if you want to see more, check out my set on Flickr.

Caption this: Easter Bunny training program

I think Bella is getting a little too into this whole Easter thing. Although I must admit, she does have the ears for it.

Also, I said it last year, but it bears repeating… rabbits are not Easter toys. Spread the word and encourage people not to give live bunnies (or chicks, ducklings, etc.) as Easter gifts. Stick with chocolate or a snuggle-worthy stuffed animal. As you can see, Bella has approved the content of this message.

May the kibble be ever in your flavor…

Apologies for the post title… I couldn’t resist. (Also, it will make much more sense when you reach the end of today’s post.)

I did see The Hunger Games last weekend, and it’s been on my mind ever since. I took a dystopian lit class in college – so when I read the book (and again when I saw the movie), it activated that English major side of me that absolutely loves analyzing literature. Yes, I’m aware that I am a dork.

Moving on, it’s time for your Friday linkage…

  1. This week’s punny pet names: Haymitch Aberwaggy and Effie Trincat.
  2. Check out this video compiling the 50 best (?) “very special episodes” of some favorite TV shows. I have to admit, I thought #2 would score the #1 spot, but I can’t really argue with the one that they chose. (I’m not crying, it’s just been raining on my face.)
  3. You can’t go wrong with dogs in party hats.
  4. Just because I’m feeling generous, here’s another puppy slideshow.
  5. Forget the Sorcerer’s Apprentice… the mascot’s apprentice is way cuter. (I hope that Jack the bulldog gets well soon – poor pup.)
  6. I’m pretty sure Bella isn’t really qualified to be the mascot for a sports team. Have you seen her catch? (I kid, I kid…)
  7. I love that Jon Hamm is actually kind of a ham. These goofy photos endear him to me even more. (Speaking of Mad Men, surely I’m not the only one who has been singing Zou Bisou Bisou all week? And by singing, I mean singing only those three words, because I do not know the rest)
  8. I’m easily amused – thank goodness the Internet is always there to amuse me. The They Volunteer tumblr is one-note, but still amusing. These two were my favorites. (Apparently I have not recovered from last week’s obsessions. Or my other obsession.)

Time to give cats their due – this week, enjoy a tribute to felines on film. (Also, a warning: there may be one word not for sensitive puppy ears in there. It’s not my fault – blame Brad Pitt. Geez, the nerve of that guy.)

I can’t even decide which one is my favorite, but it’s kind of hard to top Say Anything.Okay, I’m going to go off book here, and share a second video today. Behold, the most adorable hunger games ever played:

I bid you farewell for today, dear readers… may the kibble be ever in your flavor!

White dogs can’t catch…

I was obviously going for a play on White Men Can’t Jump, but I don’t think it worked that well. Technically, I should have called this post “this brown and white dog can’t jump” – however, that seemed even less catchy.

Anyway, I’ve mentioned that Bella doesn’t know how to catch. She must have missed the day in dog school where they taught that one. She tries to catch things with her paws instead of with her mouth. It’s adorable, but ineffective.

See? Adorably ineffective.

I’m good with words, not math

I have a confession… apparently my celebration of 500 posts was a bit premature.  By a bit, I mean 98 posts premature.  Allow me to explain…

When I logged into my Blogger account to write Wednesday’s post, the dashboard stated that I had “499 posts.”  Being a somewhat reasonable individual, I assumed that the post I was in the process of writing would be my 500th.  Apparently not.

I logged into blogger to write today’s No Frown Friday post… and my dashboard said I still had 499 posts.  My Spidey sense began to tingle, as I realized something was amiss.  Trying to reconcile the deficiency, I thought maybe the dashboard was counting both published and draft posts – however, that number is currently 503, so that didn’t add up.  I checked the list of archived posts on the blog’s sidebar and did some quick math, which revealed that Wednesday’s post was actually my 402nd post. (At least that’s what I got – as my math skills have obviously been called into question, for all I know it was the 384th post.)

So… thank you for the congratulations that I did not deserve.  I will let the future 500th post pass by without comment, as I’ve already been congratulated on it. (Perhaps it’s better this way – 500 gets all the glory, and no one ever cares about poor 402.  On Wednesday, 402 finally had the chance to shine.)

Anyway, my apologies for my poor math skills and inability to decipher my Blogger dashboard.  No wonder Bella seemed so bored.  (Your captions were stellar, however.)

Anyway, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, stay tuned for your regularly scheduled Friday linkage later today… perhaps that will help me atone for my accidental deception.

Good with words, not math.
