Calling all DC/northern Virginia dogs: #Barktoberfest is this Saturday!

Are you a dog? Do you have a dog? Do you like dogs? How about cats? Do you live in the DC/northern Virginia area? Do you enjoy seeing dogs in costume? Do you like fun? If your answer to any of those questions is yes, then I’ve got an event for you…

(As an aside, if your answer to my first question is yes… I’m intrigued. How did you end up on my website? Obviously, you have learned to use a computer, so maybe you can also write emails? If so, let’s chat. I have much to ask you, dog genius.)

Anyway… if you’re in the DC/northern Virginia area, get out your calendar and pencil in plans for Saturday. Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) is hosting its annual fall festival – Barktoberfest – this Saturday, September 28! Join FOHA at the Loudoun County Fairgrounds in Leesburg from 10am to 5pm. Easy like Sunday morning…

These are the faces of dogs who would love to know why I’m bothering them with the iPhone camera before noon on a Sunday:

Easy like Sunday morning: I Still Want More Puppies

At least they don’t mind the constant Lionel Richie references.

Caption this dog: Here’s what I think of your bath…

Today, I thought I’d share a classic Bella photo with you, circa 2004. Obviously, Bella did not approve of the fact that I was giving her a bath. Her (completely unintentional) comic timing was impeccable, however:

Bella in the bath: I Still Want More Puppies

Seriously? My poor stressed out kiddo…

What’s Bella thinking? (Perhaps – if she was in a dramatic mood that day – she felt like a costumed fool trapped in a tragic game?) Share your captions in the comments!

Don’t forget – you can vote for Bella daily in the Dogs of Blogville calendar contest, should you feel so inclined. She’s barely hanging on to a spot in the top twelve…

He’ll be your Batdog for all seasons

Bear with me…

Yesterday, I quoted Grease 2 in order to convince you to vote for Bella in the Dogs of Blogville calendar contest. Today, I wanted to find a video that would fit the theme, but it proved tougher than anticipated. (Where’s a cool rider when you need one?) So, I took a few leaps. You may remember that Michelle Pfeiffer was in Grease 2. She also played a little character known as Catwoman.

Hence, a Batdog video seemed appropriate:

Vote for Bella and I’ll stop quoting Grease 2… maybe

Bella has asked me to tell you that she’s participating in the 2nd annual Dogs of Blogville calendar contest. She’d like to snag a spot in the calendar… but to do so, she’ll need your support. I mean, look at this face…

Vote for Bella: I Still Want More Puppies

Let’s do it for our country – our country wants us to.

You can vote for Bella daily at the wonderful Heart Like a Dog blog.

Pretty please? With kibble on top? Otherwise, I’ll be forced to mine Grease 2 for even more quotable lyrics. (Unless that’s your thing, of course… if you’re voting for Bella so that I’ll include more Grease 2 references on the blog, please let me know in the comments. I aim to please.)

The right way to ask people when they plan to have kids

Okay, students. Professor Judge E. Dog is back today with another useful lesson. You may have friends or family members who seem stubbornly unwilling to shout their reproductive plans from the rooftops. When interrogated asked, they give “cute” answers such as “When we’re ready, we’ll let you know” or “I just want more puppies.”

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. There are countless articles out there advising people how to evade your questions and hide this important information. These devious masterminds have a host of skillful dodges at their disposal. What’s a Nosy Parker to do? It’s just not fair. You’re just embracing your inner Mary Worth. Where are the tips about the right way to ask this question? (Here. Those tips are here.) Continue reading
