Dance of the Sugar-Plum Puppies

It’s Friday again, so I’m here with your weekly dose of linky goodness…

  1. Your punny pet name: Kitty Ya-meow-guchi.  (Fun fact: kittens are really into ice skating.)
  2. It’s definitely the party season – time to stock up on gifts for your hosts/hostesses.  If one of them happens to be a dog lover, here are some great ideas.  Another option – just get a gift for the dog instead.
  3. Once you have the gifts, you’ll need to wrap them. On that note, I have a feeling most cats would not be as tolerant as this one.
  4. Looking for some new Christmas music to sing while you decorate? Might I suggest The 12 Dogs of Christmas? (That post may inspire me to dogify some Christmas carols soon.  Stay tuned.)
  5. Does your dog inspire your holiday decorations? Maybe I should take a cue from Bo and make a Bella out of marshmallows and peanut butter cups.
  6. Speaking of my little blog star, want to see more photos from Bella’s holiday shoot?  Check out our album on Facebook. (While you’re there, you might as well like the page too, right?)
  7. Considering taking photos of your pet this holiday season but not sure where to start?  Lucky for you, I’ve rounded up some tips from our pals at Go Pet Friendly and Alfie’s Blog.
Finally, here’s a holiday treat – therapy dogs performing The Nutcracker.  Personally, I think the Mouse King steals the show.

(Visit here for more information about this performance.)

I was joking about creating a candy Bella (I blame last night’s Parks & Recreation for putting that notion into my brain), but now I’m wondering –  what candy would you use to make a replica of your dog?

(P.S. Parks and Recreation, much like Community, has a documented love of puppies. Yet another reason I love these two shows.)

Happy Friday!

Calling all bloggers: Holiday help for animals in need

Two Little Cavaliers and Pamper Yourself in Pink have put together a fantastic holiday blogging event to help animals in need.  I’ve joined, and I hope you’ll consider doing so as well.

Several pet bloggers will be participating in this event, which will include a giveaway of a cash prize.  The cash prize will be split between the winner and an animal charity of his or her choice (a 501(c)(3) organization that has a history of saving animals).

Bloggers can sign up to promote their Facebook Fan Pages, Twitter links, and their Google+ pages by chipping in $10 towards the prize.  (At the end of the event, 60 percent of this money will go to the winner’s charity and 40 percent will go towards the winner’s cash prize.)  It’s a great chance for bloggers to promote their blogs while helping animals in need during the holiday season.  Win-win, right?

Are you a blogger who wants to be part of this great event?  Head over to Two Little Cavaliers for all of the important details.  If you sign up, please make sure to mention I Still Want More Puppies as the blog that referred you.

Can’t wait ’til Christmas…

As you know, I love Garfield’s Christmas Special.  The song “Can’t Wait ’til Christmas” often gets stuck in my head during the holiday season.  It’s there right now, actually.  What’s that?  You’d like it to be stuck in your head too?  That can be arranged.

I couldn’t find a clip of just the song (and I have no editing skills to speak of), but some wonderful soul has posted parts of the special online.  The song in question appears in the clip below… fast forward to 3:30 or so to hear it:

I’ll be humming it for days.  Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

Count your blessings instead of sheep

We talked about holiday TV… now it’s time to talk about Christmas movies!  One of my absolute favorites has to be White Christmas.  (I also love Elf, It’s a Wonderful Life, and many more… to list them all could take a while.)  Today I thought I’d share one of my favorite songs from the movie:

Disclaimer: although I love this song, I don’t actually love snow.  Go figure.

So tell me… what is your favorite Christmas movie?

May your days be terrier & bright

Christmas is fast approaching.  As a result, today’s No Frown Friday theme was an easy choice… enjoy some seasonal linkage:

  1. Instead of punny pet names, I’m just going to recommend you name your pet after one of Santa’s reindeer this week.  Why not?
  2. You know I love the Grinch’s dog, so I’m sure you’ll understand how much I love this quartet of real-life Maxes. (The antlers make me smile – Bella better watch out or she’s going to find herself in a reindog photo shoot.)
  3. Interested in doggie decorations? Check out some photos of the First Dog’s decorations.
  4. I’ve also got another Cute Math lesson for you: Santa suits + cute animals =  guaranteed holiday cheer.  These pets prove my point.  Still not convinced?  Your skepticism will melt away after you take a gander at these penguins.  (For bonus points, remember that elves are pretty cute too.)
  5. Bella sure has been slacking off – apparently other dogs help out by wrapping Christmas presents.

Speaking of helpful dogs, Jesse the Jack Russell takes the cake:

Have a wonderful weekend – and if you decide to get your pet’s photo taken with Santa, here are some handy tips.  As you know, Bella doesn’t travel well, so no photos with Santa unless he makes a house call.  We’ll just have to live vicariously through you.

Getting into the spirit…

Dog eat Doug

‘Tis the season… and nothing puts me in the holiday mood like a good holiday special or movie on TV.  We all have them – those classics that we just have to watch every year, or it just doesn’t feel like the holidays.  I thought I’d share a few of my favorite TV specials with you today (links are to clips from the shows where available):

  • Garfield’s Christmas Special – This one was my favorite as a child.  I loved everything about it, and could quote it from beginning to end.  Grandma is the best.
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas – A classic.  Confession: I sometimes have the urge to stage an impromptu dance party with this song.
  • Mickey’s Christmas Carol – Hands down, this is my favorite version of  A Christmas Carol out there.  (The Muppet version is a close second, of course.)  I get emotional just watching the opening.
  • Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – I still refer to the Island of Misfit Toys on a regular basis (possibly as often as once a week).
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas – I am a Max the dog fangirl.  Cartoon version only, please.  As far as I’m concerned, that Jim Carrey thing never happened.
  • ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas – For some reason, this story of some mice and a clock (that’s the Cliff’s Notes version) was always one of my favorites.  The day I found it on DVD was a good one indeed.  I mean, this song…

There are definitely many other worthy choices… like my own personal honorable mentions Frosty the Snowman and Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too for example.  (Not to mention favorite characters, like the Heat Miser and the Snow Miser.)  And that’s just from TV.  As for Christmas movies… well, that’s a post for another day.

Anyway, it’s cold outside… so go snuggle with your pet.  Then tell me all about your favorite holiday TV in the comments!

Bella Holiday Tip #19

It’s been a busy week… so instead of your regularly scheduled No Frown Friday, I’m going to go ahead and share another Bella holiday tip.  Enjoy!

I already showed you our 2008 holiday card.  Last year, we moved into a new house a few weeks before Christmas.  Bella used this experience as inspiration.  She advised us to send out our 2009 holiday wishes and our new address at the same time.  She’s a resourceful one:

Bella Holiday Tip #19:
Moving during the holidays is tough when you have lots of bones to pack – so let your holiday cards do double duty.
