Teach your dog to wine
There’s no typo in that post title. Today, we’re talking about wine… the fun kind, not the kind that contains an h. You heard me… it’s that kind of post.
Puppycat is my new obsession…
Pup culture confession: I like the dog from Duck Hunt
It’s time for another Friday link roundup. Today’s theme? Video games.
(Before we get started, however, a quick disclaimer. Looking back, I’m mildly horrified that I played a video game in which the objective was to shoot computerized ducks. However, I do have a certain fondness for that laughing dog. I can’t help it.)
- First up, this week’s punny pet name: Carmen Sandi-dog-o.
- Speaking of puns, this blog is filled entirely with recipes bearing punny titles of the legal variety. It is therefore amazing. I rest my case.
- Puns are not my only love. (Sorry, puns.) Given the format of this and many other posts, you are probably already aware that I love lists. Thus, this post about obsessive list making was a home run for me.
- Video games let you live out fantasies. Depending on the game, you can be a warrior, a dinosaur, a pilot, a hedgehog with a dye job, or even a plumber with an overactive imagination. Maybe you can even pretend you’re a dog?
- Now that I think about it, perhaps dogs are already living la vida video game.
- Apparently there’s a game coming out about a dog in space. (Yes, I’m fighting the urge to make that same dog… in… space joke again.)
- Who am I kidding? Will any video game dog ever top this guy?
- I mean, these cynical hedgehogs know what I’m talking about. Totally skeptical.
Today’s video reminded me of that old Mortal Kombat game. (Or maybe Punch Out, although this video is more akin to a boxing game.) (On a tangentially related note, I now want to start a band and name it Mortal Wombat.) (On a note related to that tangentially-related note, a Google search quickly revealed that I am far from the first person to utter that pun.)

Anyway, here’s what we’ve been up to this week on the blog:

Have anything fun planned this weekend? I’ve got a few things on my to do list, the least exciting of which might involve laundry. Wild and crazy? Check.
Dogs on the street: photo walk in Old Town Alexandria
Last month, I attended a photo walk organized by my friend M, the lovely lady behind Hey Love Designs. We walked around Old Town Alexandria, snapping photos and chatting. Along the way, I spied quite a few pups out for a walk. (It’s pretty pet friendly.) I even managed to capture a few on film.
I thought I’d share a few of my photos with you today. For the full set, go here. You can also see photos from the other photo walk attendees here.

It’s always hard to go back to work after a long weekend. Why not ease in with a few fantastic posts? For June’s monthly roundup, I thought I’d try a different theme…

Gotcha Day: It’s a Tavishversary!
One year ago today, a furry little dude entered our lives. Although Bella was initially skeptical about her new and energetic little brother, I think she’s grown to love him and his crazy antics. It keeps her young.
Tavish is many things. He’s an artist, a chameleon, an aspiring movie star, a greeting card inspirer, a Bella kisser, a goofball, and a user of unconventional pillows. He sleeps with his favorite toy, tries to act tough, copies Bella’s quirks, and sticks his tongue out a lot. If he ever needs a job, he could find employment as a Quokka impersonator. Most of all, he’s an adorable and indispensable part of our family.
So, today I’m happy to celebrate an entire year of having Tavish in my life. Thanks for being so awesome, little dude.
No Frown Friday was on hiatus this week due to the holiday, but your weekly linkage will return next week. In any event, here’s what we were up to on the blog this week:
- Your Friday cute: Red Panda-monium
- Spam comments I have known, loved, and been confused by
- Always look on the bright side of deaf
- Caption this dog: Hooray for the red, white & cute!
That’s all for now… hope everyone is having a great weekend (and that your neighbors are finally done setting off those pesky fireworks).

Always look on the bright side of deaf
A few months ago, I realized that Bella is losing her hearing. It’s not totally gone yet, but she definitely has trouble hearing. When she does hear a sound, she seems to have trouble figuring out where it’s coming from. (Is your dog experiencing hearing loss too? Check out some of these tips.)
Initially, I was kind of sad about this realization. After all, my baby puppy is not as young as she used to be. However, I’ve come to realize that there are a few benefits to this new state of affairs. (Plus, deaf dogs rock!)
Should you find yourself in a similar situation, try to look on the bright side of life.
You might find that there are some silver linings to that seemingly dark cloud. (After all, we should always rely on Spamalot for important life lessons.) Here are a few good things I’ve discovered about having a dog that’s losing her hearing… Continue reading
