Animal odd couples are the best kind of couples

It’s time for another No Frown Friday. (I also hope that this post heralds the return of regular posting. I’ve been down with the count due to allergies this week. Allergies in February. What is this world coming to?)

  1. First up, your punny pet names are Grammy-inspired: TayRoar Swift, Hairy Underwood, and LL Drool J.
  2. The Grammy performances occasionally include some surprising duos… so, today’s theme is odd couples. We can learn so much from these unconventional pairings.
  3. Let’s kick it off with a dog and a kangaroo. Maybe I’ll give some of them a celebrity couple name too, like Brangelina. I’ll call these two… Dogaroo. (Not to be confused with the Lemaroo, of course.)
  4. Speaking of Brangelina, this Swiss Shepherd took a cue from Angelina and adopted some tiger cubs. Squee.
  5. Now this… this is friendship.
  6. Is this video an example of what they call sitting in the catbird seat?
  7. I heard that this cat and rabbit (Cabbit) are wearing matching BFF necklaces. (I wonder if kids these days still wear those.)
  8. The owl and the pussycat are on Facebook. Everyone’s getting into the social media game. They shall dance by the light of the computer monitor.
  9. A dog hanging out with a lamb? There’s mutton weird about that. (Groan.)
  10. It’s like a Disney classic come to life. Behold, the fox… and the cat?
  11. This clip of a leopard and a baby baboon (Leopaboon) is sweet, yet rather sad (especially considering the backstory). Insert tissue warning here.
  12. Quoth the raven, “Why is this crow feeding a cat and a dog?”

The dog below is a true hero. The look he gives the camera reminds me of the look Bella gives me when she’s putting up Tavish.

Adorbs. You just know that those kittens are going to be this cat when they grow up. It’s all in good fun, right?

Puppy Bowl… Monday?

Okay, so I know I’ve been a bit MIA (and left you hanging without a No Frown Friday post last week). I hope you can forgive me. It’s all due to a lack of poor planning on m part.

You see, each year we throw a Super Bowl party at our house. We had some work done on our basement recently, so I got behind on party prep. I spent the weekend cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, etc. I meant to take a photo to post for Super Dog Sunday, and didn’t even get around to that. (I’m usually ready with a sporty photo in advance, as past years would indicate.) I even forgot to take photos of the spread for my baking blog (and actually forgot to bust out the camera at all this weekend). So, to apologize for being a bad blogger, I figured I’d atone with some adorableness…

Not impressed by the Super Bowl...

Not impressed by the Super Bowl…

Not impressed by the Super Bowl...

Ditto.

As you can see, the dogs were unimpressed by all of that party prep. Though they did enjoy getting attention from all of our guests (and they did join me to watch the Puppy Bowl before bed).

Anyway, back to regular posting soon… I should finally be able to start catching up on life this week.

I love my dead gay dog

Bonus points if you know the inspiration for this post title. If you do, we were so meant to be besties. (For double bonus points, do you know which TV show also referenced that movie recently? It’s a good show. Add it to your DVR.)

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Today, I read a story that left my eye twitching with barely controlled rage.  Prepare to experience a similar ocular fury… this story manages to hit multiple rage buttons at the same time.

(Before we dive in, I want to let you know that the story has a happy ending. That fact may keep your despair at bay, although it likely won’t dampen your anger.)

So, there’s this guy – let’s call him Moron – who thought he saw his male dog trying to hump another male dog. When confronted with this situation, what would you do? Continue reading

Forget Skynet… meet our new canine overlords

The dogs… they are evolving. Now that they can communicate by means other than the Twilight Bark, I’m pretty sure they’ll be taking over soon.

First Skype… then the world.

Um, seriously… pretty soon we’ll be working for the dogs. (Oh wait, I already do. Don’t laugh. You probably do too. Unless you have a cat, in which case both you and the dogs are probably on his payroll.)

Still not convinced? Dogs have already mastered more efficient modes of transportation. They’ve learned to brave the elements. I’m pretty sure that this dog will be organizing a canine Ocean’s Eleven any day now (with his pals George Cloonflea and Brad Sit). And let’s be honest – they’ve obviously conquered this whole blogging thing.

Humanity is doomed. The only question now is whether we will have to welcome our new canine overlords or our new feline ones.

Moonwalking down memory lane…

I’m feeling nostalgic today (and every day, but let’s set that problem aside for now). Maybe this weekend I’ll bust out my jelly shoes and play with my Brenda Walsh paper doll.

Oh, wait. I own neither of those things. Tragic.

  1. First up, your punny pet name: Henona Ryder (or Winona Flyder).
  2. On a pun-related note, these reworked movie posters are killing me. Seriously, how did I never come up with Abraham Lynxin?
  3. Continuing on the poster theme, these minimalist posters of children’s classics are pretty neat.
  4. Seriously though, I’m beginning to question my pun-slinging skills. I also wish that I had come up with Ernest Lemingway.
  5. Given that I mentioned both Winona and good ol’ Brenda Walsh above, do you love the movie Heathers? If not, might I ask… what is your damage?
  6. Speaking of damage, this article about Jem and the Holograms may have broken my brain.
  7. Now I’m going to be singing this all day.

You know, this cat can moonwalk better than I ever could:

Thanks for joining me on this (moon)walk down memory lane!

(Don’t forget – the #SuperDogPics Twitter party is this Sunday. Have you RSVP’d?)

FOHA: Forty years of helping animals

Blog the ChangeFor this round of Blog the Change for Animals, I wanted to highlight an organization that has been helping animals since before I was a twinkle in my parents’ eyes.

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) in northern Virginia has been serving the DC area since 1973. Last year, FOHA gave me a wonderful place to volunteer and a new pup in the form of Tavish. This year, FOHA celebrates its 40th anniversary. Continue reading
