Fourteen furry reasons to smile
As usual, my monthly roundup is just a little bit late. (You also may have noticed that No Frown Friday was missing yesterday – I’ve been having some technical difficulties, so you’ll get that soon as well. I promise.)
Anyway, I hope you don’t mind too much. Enjoy this roundup of posts from November that put a big smile on my face:
- Dear Fourteen Year Old Me from Rescued Insanity – A beautiful post.
- Like Herding Cats from Tales and Tails – Behind the scenes of a canine photo shoot, humor awaits.
- Felix, I Swear the Camera Won’t Steal Your Soul from Kol’s Notes – Speaking of amusing photo shoots…
- Brooks Says, Adopt a Senior Dog from Peggy’s Pet Place – Can’t argue with that. (In case you’re not yet convinced, read this post from Something Wagging.)
- A Couple of Blondes Take a Thanksgiving Walk from Yikes! Loy Turns 60 – I know that sounds like the opening line to the joke, but this story had me smiling from ear to ear.
- Why I’ll Never Own a Dog Again from Something Wagging This Way Comes – You know I love thinking about words. How do you describe your relationship with your dog? (This post in response from Rescued Insanity is pretty interesting too.)
- 295/365: Babushka? from Life with LuLu & Wally Too! – Honestly, this one just cracked me up.
- Monday Mischief: Christmas List Mischief from My Brown Newfies – Being a reindeer for a day is a totally reasonable request, right?
- Live: Turkeys on Ice! More Fun Than in Your Freezer from This One Wild Life – I would like to request a TV channel devoted to the happenings in Kim’s yard.
- Six Tips for Photographing Dogs With Any Camera from kate with a camera – Several great tips here… check ’em out!
- Dogton Abbey Blog, Things Are Getting Crabby Down At The Abbey Episode 4! from Molly the Wally – Pamela from Something Wagging turned me on to this one. Go read the whole series!
- A Wienerholic Family Christmas from My Life with Wieners – This post makes traveling with Bella sound tame.
- Friday Funny! Video: Dog loves automatic ball throwing machine from Dakota’s Den – Tavish totally needs one of these.
- If You Give a Nutty Pet Blogger Some Cheap Holiday-Themed Accessories from Target from Chronicles of Cardigan – Hilarious as always.
That’s all, folks! Stay tuned for December – I’ll try to get that one to you before February. No promises, though.
The gift of the Dog Eyes
If it was anyone but Santa, they’d get a restraining order…
Happy Christmas Eve! Bella and Tavish are trying to be extra good in hopes of staying on (or earning a last-minute spot on) Santa’s Nice List.

I don’t think this counts as snuggling
This is not exactly what I had in mind when I asked them to snuggle.

Hark! The Puppies are Playing
Today, I have yet another caroldy (and an adorable video) for you. Enjoy!
Hark! The Puppies are Playing
Hark! The puppies are playing,
With balls and other squeaky things!
Fuzzy puppies running wild,
Bring joy to each adult and child.
Playful, all these puppies try
To unwrap the gifts that you did buy.
Undaunted they will try again,
Until your Christmas feasting ends.
Hark! the puppies are playing,
Their cuteness will make your heart sing.

The best things happen when a dog & penguin are dancing…
‘Twas the last No Frown Friday before Christmas and all through the blogs, my readers were wondering if I’d still post about dogs.
The answer is yes. Let’s do this.
- First up, your punny pet names: Bark Griswold and George Tailey.
- I guess we made it through that whole apocalypse thing okay, huh? At least it gave me this photo. And this pun. Worth it.
- As the world did not end, your weird holiday traditions can continue unabated.
- So, what should I watch to get into the holiday spirit this weekend? (Animal Planet totally stole that “pup culture” thing from this blog, right? I kid, I kid… although perhaps they should have hired me as a consultant. I could have provided some high quality puns. For example, they went with Fluffy Phelps, but I would have argued for Michael Whelps. Nailed it.)
- Moving on… I’m digging some of these TV-themed Christmas cards.
- If you are still not sure what to buy me for Christmas, my Lionel Richie wishlist just grew by one cheesy item.
- Do you wrap presents for your furry family members?
- Okay, these may not be appropriate for younger audiences, but the 25 Funniest AutoCorrects of 2012 are absolutely hilarious. I was laughing so hard I was crying. Consider it my present to you.

Bella Holiday Tip #42
You may not know this about Bella, but she loves to give advice during the holidays. Our annual holiday card contains a handy tip from the dog herself, and this year’s is no exception. I’ve shown you a few outtakes from our photo shoot, but are you ready to see the final product?
Here’s the front:
Inside, you’re greeted by this photo, and some sage advice:
Bella Holiday Tip #42
If you want to stay off the Naughty List, adopt a little brother and blame everything on him.
Finally, we added this photo on the back:
He’s got the egg… who’s got the nog?
That last one isn’t the best quality, but it sure is funny. I can’t resist a holiday photobomb.
Want to hear some more wise holiday advice from Bella? Check out her past tips from 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008.
Do you send out holiday cards with your dogs (or cats) on them? If so, do you do a special photo shoot or use candid pictures you took throughout the year?

Dog carols: Here We Come a Sniff-Sniffing & Deck the Bowls
It’s time for some more caroldies! Let’s twist some new tunes today…
Here We Come A-Sniff Sniffing
Here we come a-sniff sniffing
Among the yards so green.
Here we come a-tracking
The squirrels that we have seen.
Food and treats come to you,
And to you your rope bone too.
And dog bless you, and send you, a pup this new year,
And dog send you a pup this new year.
Dog bless the family in this house,
Dog bless the felines too.
Should you get a dog this year,
Rescue’s the thing to do.
Love and snuggles come to you,
And some puppy kisses too,
And dog bless you, and send you, a pup so very dear,
And dog send you a pup so very dear.
Deck the Bowls
Deck the bowls with lots of food,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Share your dinner or else you are rude,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Don we now our eating poses,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Don’t ignore our furry noses,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Set some full food bowls before us,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
We’ll thank you with a barking chorus,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Eating gives us so much pleasure,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Today, our intake do not measure.
Fa la la la la la la la la.
We can smell the feast a-cooking,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
We’ll steal the ham when you aren’t looking,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Either way we’ll feel like winners,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
As we’ll have eaten five full dinners,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Apparently, I’m not the only one in the mood for caroldies today. Stop by Something Wagging This Way Comes to learn the lyrics to Here Comes Puppy Dog, The 12 Days of Christmas (puppy version), and I Walked the Dog on Christmas Day.

The calmest game of tug o’ war ever?
We had a guy working on the house last week, so the dogs were upstairs with me while he was there. Apparently the dogs were bored, so this happened…
Notice how Bella keeps looking at the camera. It’s like she’s saying, “See? I’m a good big sister. Letting the little guy think he’s tough…”
