Go Packer Puppies!

I love Super Bowl Sunday.  If I’m being honest, I’m not always that into the game.  However, I am into throwing a party (we host an annual party affectionately known as Bella Bowl – this year it’s Bella Bowl V).  I’m also into watching (and judging) hilarious commercials.  Finally, I’m into the ridiculous cuteness that is the Puppy Bowl.  So you can imagine my glee when I stumbled upon this video from the Wisconsin Humane Society:

Want more?  Watch the Packer Puppies take on the Bears.

I’m not a Packers fan – but I’m not a Steelers fan either.  However, I think this video has convinced me to root for the Packers this weekend.  That many puppies can’t be wrong.

(Oh, and this year I’ve found another reason to love Super Bowl Sunday – it’s also the day of the Super Dog Sunday Blog Hop courtesy of All Things Dog!)

In the mood for food

It’s been pretty dreary and rainy lately, and that’s got me thinking about comfort food.  So… today’s No Frown Friday is food-related.  (And pet-related, of course.)

  1. Your punny pet names for the week are inspired by famous chefs: Tom Colickio, Barko DiSpirito and Woofgang Puck. (Cat Cora needed no alterations.  My favorite chef?  The Swedish Chef, of course.)
  2. Check out this dog named Dumpling… eating a dumpling.  Very meta.
  3. Quick math lesson: tiny kitten + tiny hat + tiny ice cream come = awesome commercial. (Congratulations! Simply by reading the preceding sentence, you’ve passed Cute Math 101.)
  4. Remember when Bella ate ice cream?
  5. Cats and dogs eating popsicles and peanut butter. (Serious Eats really has all of your needs covered when it comes to cute animals eating.)

Hmmm… not a lot of healthy foods in that list above.  Might I recommend you stop by Gardening with Wyatt?  The gorgeous photos of Wyatt the dog and the yummy food from his garden will inspire you to get that diet back on track.  In addition to eating better, you’ll need to hit the treadmill:

No, not like that! Try it this way:

Seriously though, if your pet is overweight, that’s not a good thing.  Bella’s had her battles with weight in the past, but on our vet’s advice we reduced the amount we were feeding her.  These days she’s slim and trim.  (Don’t get me wrong… she still licks the empty bowl – repeatedly – and looks at me forlornly when she finishes her meal.  She’s like a canine Oliver Twist.)

Given her druthers, I’m sure Bella would eat until she couldn’t move.  Luckily, our dogs have us to exercise self-control on their behalf – they can only eat what we feed them.  (Unlike humans – the blame for that extra cookie is all mine.) Hope you have a happy and healthy weekend!

Are you ready for some football?

If I had to guess, I’d say that Bella is not a football fan (jersey photos notwithstanding).  Although she loves rope bones and plush toys, balls have never been her thing.  Seeing Bella playing with a tennis ball is kind of like finding a four-leaf clover.  It’s an extremely rare occurrence.

Anyway, football season is here!  It’s my first year participating in the confusing world of fantasy football – I may not know what I’m doing, but I do think my team name is pretty awesome.  (Go Rush Puppies!)  Accordingly, today’s No Frown Friday takes us to the gridiron…

  1. Your punny pet names for the week are inspired by some Hall of Famers: Terry Bradspaw, Vince Pombardi (for your Pomeranian football fan), and Howly Long.
  2. Check out this cool football gear for your dog over at Phetched.
  3. Speaking of dogs playing sports, even the Canine in Chief enjoys a game of football every now and then.
  4. Got some time to kill before the games start this weekend?  You can watch full episodes of The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show – including this episode about Snoopy’s football career

In my quest to find the perfect video for today’s post, I came across the very talented dog below.   He’s not playing football in the American sense of the word… but he’s cute so we can overlook that, right?

He makes me smile.

In other dog news, next week you can help dogs simply by writing a post on your blog. For every blogger that posts about the Pedigree Adoption Drive between now and September 19, Pedigree will donate a bag of dog food to shelter dogs.  Cosmo Havanese over at To Dog With Love has all the details.  Go check it out!  We’ll be doing a dedicated post on the subject next week – hope you will too.

More of a blog reader than a blog writer?  That’s okay – for every new person that likes the Pedigree Adoption Drive on Facebook, Pedigree will donate a bowl of food to shelter dogs.  It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Happy weekend!

Case of the Mondays?

From an early age, I was trained to hate Mondays.  Thanks, Garfield.  Who knew cats hated the beginning of the week so much?  They don’t even have to go to work.

Anyway, although the title of this blog suggests we’re all puppies, all the time… today’s post is cat-themed.  (It happens.)  The following video sums up how I feel about Monday, while also making my Monday morning so much better:

(via Life with Dogs)

Classic, right?  That cat is my new hero.

Need more?  Well, you’re in luck.  Apparently animals jumping is so hot right now.  If you haven’t seen it yet, go watch this video of a Corgi diving into the water.  I use the term diving very loosely.  It’s really more of a belly flop.  So adorable (and you know I love those Corgis and their short little legs).

If you’re having trouble getting started today, just watch the cat video on repeat until you feel better.  It’s possible I have watched it over a dozen times (maybe more?) since I first saw it.  It’s my neverending moment of Zen.

Before I go, I want to say thanks to Sharon over at Grouchy Puppy for giving us another cool award.  Instead of selecting a few blogs, I’ll just point you to the Puppy Love blogroll at right… there you will find many wonderful pet bloggers to visit.  And I definitely encourage you to visit Grouchy Puppy – it’s awesome!

Happy Monday!

Today, bird really is the word

It’s so… hot.  So very, very hot.  For that reason, today’s No Frown Friday is all about being cool.  You know what’s cool?  Penguins.  Without further ado, I turn this No Frown Friday over to our feathered brethren:

  1. We won’t forgo the punny pet names, even though penguins aren’t really pets.  You could always use these names for that stuffed penguin I know you sleep with at night:  Feathers Locklear, Pengwynneth Paltrow, and Flipper Gore.
  2. Do you have World Cup fever?  (I hear they have doctors for that.)  If so, perhaps you should watch this video of penguins playing soccer.  Keep in mind, I use the term “playing” very loosely.
  3. Check out these photos of some adorable penguin chicks in residence at the Edinburgh Zoo.  (Bonus – learn some trivia about the Gentoo penguin while you’re at it!)
  4. I don’t know what these two penguins are talking about, but I want in on the conversation.
  5. This baby penguin on a scale is what led a friend to coin “cute-o-meter” – terminology I then appropriated for this blog.  Accordingly, what you will see at that link will send your cute-o-meter off the charts.  Seriously.  You’ll probably have to take it into the shop.

Finally, I leave you with a video of baby penguins learning to swim.

I hope you enjoyed that penguin moment of Zen – should I call it peng-Zen?  No?  Let’s just pretend that attempted pun never happened… smile and wave, boys.  Just smile and wave…

To do: buy Bella a Braves jersey

Yesterday, I watched the Braves lose to the Nationals… heartbreaking!  I also forgot my camera, so I didn’t even get to take any pictures.  Bummer all the way around.

Anyway, in lieu of some good pictures of my own, I found these photos of Atlanta’s recent Bark in the Park event.  I like the idea of sporting events with puppy spectators… Bella wouldn’t even interrupt the game, since she doesn’t care for balls.  (Now if the sport was played with rope bones, that would be a different matter.)

I also realized today that I have neglected to order a Braves jersey for
Bellakins.  She does own a few jerseys – as you can see from these photos, they are both for New York teams (our
household bridges both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line).

It’s something of a travesty that I’ve yet to get her a Braves one as
well, so I’m adding that to my to do list.  Once I do, expect a photo.
